Boston Red Sux starter Josh Beckett has been suspended for 6 games for intentionally throwing at Bobby Abreu's head which resulted in a pushing and shoving fest between the Angels and Red Sux.
he wasn't kicked out of the game because it was an overreaction on Abreu's part....yet he picks up a suspension?
hmmmmmm
If this was a Yankees player you would be singing a different tune. MLB thought it was intentional, since they thought it was intentional he deserves the 6 game suspension, which is really only 1 start like somebody already pointed out.
they need to re-design a suspension for a pitcher as a 6 game suspension makes little sense.
it should be like 2 times through the rotation or something like that.
I do think they take that into account for a lot of this stuff. 6 games seems like a random number but they didn't view the matter as extremely serious and wanted to suspend him for 1 start so they made it 6 games.
Kind of tough to say he has to miz his next 1 or 2 scheduled starts because rotations aren't full proof and the Sox could just say, guess what? Beckett is getting moved up to be scheduled to start tomorrow on 2 days rest. Oh no, he's suspended. Welp, we'll just throw Lester or Dice-K. See ya in 3 days Beck.
Teams would find loopholes and ways around it if you did it like you want to. IMO there's less exploitable flaws in the suspension system like this.
You don't think if he was going to the plate to throw punches he would have thrown punches? hmmmmm.
Watch the video, Spier and Hunter are 10x more heated than Beckett is at any point...so if it's based on Beckett's "aggression" then fair should be fair. Hell...Hunter was tossed out of the game while Beckett was still allowed to pitch. That's not being a homer, that's using logic.
meh disagree. Your logic is off. MLB is suspending Beckett for starting/instigating the whole thing with an "intentional" pitch at Abreu's head. Hunter's reaction and being heated are a direct result of the underlying offense. While MLB disagrees with the intensity of Hunters reaction they know he doesn't react like that if Beckett didn't stir shit up to begin with so Beckett gets the larger of the two suspensions and Hunter gets a fine.
I don't think that it was intentional, though I see why MLB is going to do a suspension. They shouldn't, but I can see why. I think the whole situation is stupid as fuck. Abreu and Beckett should stop being punk asses, Abreu for being a bitch and Beckett for taking too long. Beckett misses one start, so it's basically just as even. My only issue is that if you suspend Beckett for this, you need to suspend Hunter for one game. I agree with Heelsox that if you're tossed, you need to be suspended. But hey, Bob Watson has always had his head stuck up his ass for years.
What the fuck do you expect though, you call time when he is starting his motion, and you don't just stop there. Ump made a bad call by agreeing to call time at that moment.
personally don't agree Beckett needed 6 games+ a fine. Either or. It's impossible to gage whether it was intentional or unintentional unless beckett says it himself, but i agree that Hunter/Speier should be suspended as well seeing as they caused far more problems than Beckett did.
