    St. Louis Cardinals

Damn, am I the only Cards fan on here?

Anyways, Pujols is tearing up; four homers already. We need left-handed pitching though.

He's playing alright so far; been starting in left and centerfield. Went 2-5 last night and is batting I think like .270 something.

Carpenter left after the third last night with a strained rib cage, don't need him missing significant time.

Now at 6-3 with a loss in extra last night to the D'Backs.

Damn, Carpenter is on the 15-day DL.
Pitching, especially Wellemeyer, has to step up.

I'm definetly not a cardinal fan, but we can hate on the cubs together right? You guys are off to a nice start, but the rest of the division isn't to far behind. You can thank us for bringing the pirates back down to earth.

Oh most definately, can't have too many Cubs haters. ;)
I think we can keep the lead in the Central if pitching holds up. Our lineup is great as is, just would like some bullpen help.

You guys have been the most impressive team in the central so far this year, hands down. The hitting has been great, it will be interesting to see what approach you guys take to getting pitching help later this year. Last year you just waited for guys to come off the DL, and that wasn't enough.

Yeah hitting has been great for us, and pitching is always good when we have Dave Duncan as the pitching coach. However, our fielding is a little suspect; I think Baseball Tonight said that we are tied for the league lead in errors. We need to pick up a lefty before the deadline.

Probably has been seen by a lot of you on here, but if not:

Scary accident for Rick Ankiel. He's fine now, but the Cards will probably put him on the 15-day DL.

Chris Carpenter set to return on Wednesday Night Baseball against the Cubs!

ST. LOUIS -- Chris Carpenter passed a final test with a short bullpen session Sunday and the Cardinals' ace is due to come off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday against the Cubs.

Carpenter, on the DL since April 15 with a strained left rib cage muscle, had been set to throw another side session on Tuesday before returning to the rotation next weekend. A rainout Friday led to rethinking that plan.

"Two days, three days is not that big of a deal," Carpenter said. "I feel good and I'm looking forward to going out there."

Manager Tony La Russa said Kyle Lohse is set to pitch Monday night's makeup game against the Brewers after working two innings of the rain-shortened game Friday, followed by Joel Pineiro on Tuesday.

The Brewers are holding back Yovani Gallardo, who retired only three of the eight batters he faced Friday, until Wednesday. Braden Looper, who played the three previous seasons with St. Louis, will start Monday in the finale of the three-game series.

Gallardo missed virtually all of last season due to injury and has pitched 46 2/3 innings, second-most on the staff this season.

"I just felt he's had quite a few innings already," manager Ken Macha said. "You can look at it and say 'Short term, what are they doing?'

"But I think in the long run it'll work out."

Carpenter said he put enough effort into a strenuous bullpen session Friday, throwing four simulated innings, to realize he's ready. Less than a week after being hurt, he said he resumed doing arm exercises.

"I'm going to go out and do the best I can for as many pitches as they give me," Carpenter said. "And when it's over, it's over."

Carpenter was injured while hitting, and La Russa said he encouraged him to take shorter, compact swings. Carpenter said he took 50 swings Saturday and 50 more Sunday.

"I can tell you one thing: I'm not going to go up there and be an automatic out, because that's not fair to my club," Carpenter said. "It's not fair to let the other side know that I'm not going to be swinging the bat. I'm going to be ready to go up and put a swing on the ball and try to do something."

Great pitching duel yesterday between Carpenter and Gallardo of Milwaukee.
Chris took a perfect game into the 7th inning, and Gallardo took a no-no into the 6th.

Not a bad game for STL tonight, well at least so far.

2 ER for Carp, pretty good showing, could have been a lot worse.

Man I missed watching Carp pitch. He is easily the second best pitcher in the game (behind Santana) when healthy.
