Rubio entered the draft with the mind set of being drafted top 5 by a team that needed a starting point guard. Now he goes to an organization in Minnesota that didn't develop Randy Foye well, drafted Jonny Flynn, Nick Calathes, and Wayne Ellington+Sebastian Telfair is still there.

Rubio doesn't want to be a back up, and to be honest as much as I don't like the guy you can't fault him for considering every aspect of his future.

This guy is a pre-Madonna faggot. Take your draft position and team and go out and play your fucking hardest you faggot. I already cant stand this guy.. he might be my most hated player in the world right now, and I mean that. I hope the faggot blows out his knee in Spain and never even gets a chance in the NBA. I really feel bad for T-Wolves fans.

The GM already came out and said he wants both of the guys to start. For a raw 19 year old who hasnt proven shit to be handed a starting job WHILE the team drafts another PG whos more ready than him.. Rubio should be flattered. This guy is a pre-Madonna who's head has been blown up bcus of all the hype around him. I cannot WAIT to see him fall flat on his face.

The wolves come off to me as TOTALLY FUCKING UNPREPREPARED for Rubio falling to 5. They knew the risks. He made it clear in numerous interviews his mother doesn't like the cold weather, etc etc blah blah blah. As much as I'm trying to convince myself that this whole situation is going to work out, it isn't. Why the fuck do you draft Flynn with Curry still on the board? Even Flynn + Curry would've been better than this shit.

It's like if Kevin Mchale was back in the draft room lastnight.

Trade him. Get his bitch ass outta there. Trade up for Tyreke so Rubio can enjoy warm southern Cali weather.

            From Zgoda's blog:

(regarding Rubio's absence from press conference)

A Wolves spokesman said there’s “no conspiracy here” and said Rubio’s agent, Dan Fegan, decided not to have his client come to town because of the uncertainty over Rubio’s unresolved contract buyout with his Spanish team.

Also says Rubio is not balking at playing for the Wolves.

David Kahn will address matters this afternoon at 3 p.m.

If it is even true that Rubio doesn't want to go to Minnesota, the Timberwolves have no one to blame but themselves. Rubio made it very clear to Memphis that he didn't want to go there and if they did any homework, they would have known the same about Minnesota. Even if they do take him and are going to try and convince him to stay, why the hell did they take Flynn right after? Is that going to make Rubio want to come to Minnesota?

I'm thinking they took him in order to try and trade him. But when no one came calling, they were fucked.

As for Rubio being a spoiled brat? No, he is just weighing his options. The same way Elway did, the same way Cutler did, the same way a lot of draftees do.

                    That's disgusting.

You enter the draft, you go to where you are chosen. It's a privledge to play in pro sports leagues that many people would kill to have.

Do the Wolves hold his rights indefinitely? Or like baseball where if he's not signed he can jump back into next year's draft?

If they do own him, I'd never let him go.

but apparently the Knicks want him. Who knows at this point. The sad thing is that Wolves GM David Kahn is fucking CONVINCED that these 2 can co exist, comparing them to dumars/thomas and what not.

                        How so?

Elway didn't do shit in the pros when he told the Colts he wouldn't play for them and instead went to baseball for a year. Was he a spoiled brat or simply waiting for a better alternative?

There are plenty of players that when given the option of playing for a crappy NBA team and having to split time or pushing for a trade to a respectable franchise would take the trade 100% of the time. It isn't being a spoiled bitch, its called being smart enough to have another option (Spanish basketball) and not simply kissing the ring of whoever drafts you. He is doing the smart thing that any professional should do, HE IS PUSHING FOR WHAT HE WANTS BECAUSE HE HAS LEVERAGE!

I believe they hold his rights. That's why you see a lot of teams (see this year's Mavericks) drafting a lot of foreign guys, knowing they'll likely stay for a year or two in the Euro Leagues before they are ready to come to the NBA.

So the Wolves won't lose out too much here, however teams aka the Knicks have all the leverage, as they know the Wolves will be desperate to deal him.

Isn't the point of drafts in pro sports......to give the shit teams a chance to grab top incoming talent?

So the same teams don't always win and all markets can be profitable?

So when these top incoming players enter the draft, then say fuck that shit I'm only playing for X, Y or Z team......doesn't that defeat the purpose?

You only hold the rights for one year in the NBA per the NBAPA site:

Say the Lions traded in the NFL draft to get the 4th pick. With that pick (after drafting Stafford #1), they picked Sanchez. Neither player is pleased, but Sanchez has a multi-million dollar contract to play in the CFL for 1 season and can then go back into the draft. Would he be selfish/stupid for going to the CFL for one season and then re-entering the draft and going to a team where he would be the focus of the offense and not be splitting time? Plus, he wouldn't be playing in Detroit which is known for having a poor team and little hope for being great any time soon.

That situation is almost identical to the one with Rubio and no one would be faulting Sanchez for such a decision.
