Cavs sign Jamario Moon offer sheet

The Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet, according to NBA front-office sources.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet, according to NBA front-office sources.

Although the full details of the offer sheet are unlikely to be known until Monday, when the contract is submitted to the league office, sources told ESPN.com that the deal Moon signed Friday spans at least two years.

The Miami Heat will have seven days to match the offer once it's formally processed, but Cleveland would appear to have a good chance of landing Moon given Miami's well-chronicled desire to avoid new contracts longer than one year to protect its 2010 salary-cap space.

There are exceptions to that policy, as evidenced by Miami's well-chronicled attempts to sign Lamar Odom away from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat, though, have multiple players at Moon's position -- Daequan Cook, James Jones and Yakhouba Diawara -- even if they don't land Odom, raising doubts about their ability to keep him.

After trading for Shaquille O'Neal and signing Anthony Parker to take their payroll beyond the $80 million mark, Cleveland has spent the past week looking for free-agent bargains as it tries to add depth at the wing positions and find a power forward that can stretch the floor with his jumper. The Cavs had been linked in recent days to forwards such as Rob Kurz and Sean May before signing Moon.
I like this move...Moon will be a productive player off the bench for Cleveland.

This would give the Cavs a very good bench. I hope Miami matches.

Jamario Moon is trash. Take it from a Raptor fan. Have fun with someone whos supposed to excel off his athleticism taking jumpers all game. He reminds me of a less talented version of Josh Smith with a better attitude.

he's what cleveland needed, a long, athletic perimeter defender who could get out on the break.

So they needed a shitty version of LeBron to spell LeBron (they do the same kind of shit). I dont see it. It will end up being a good signing if Moon ever learns to play to his abilities, but I wouldnt bank on it.

Athletic guys can be very useful if you have a good play maker like LeBron. Kinda like when Kenyon Martin had Jason Kidd in New Jersey setting him up for 80% of his points.

im not saying moon is a great player or anything because he isnt, he's just raw talent. i'm just saying that cleveland went for ariza and marion, didn't succeed with either, so they were able to get a player with the same skill set as ariza and marion in moon, so it's a smart signing.

Surrounding Lebron with more mediocrity. Sweet.

Matt Barnes would of been a better fit

I heard Barnes is close to signing with the Magic, I personaly would want him to go too the Clippers so we can have a good defensive wing.
