Rubio to stay in Spain for two more seasons

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the NBA will have to wait until 2011 for Ricky Rubio to leave Europe, a high-level source told Yahoo! Sports on Monday night.

Regal of Barcelona has agreed to a six-year contract with Rubio after working out a buyout package with DKV Jovenut of Spain on Monday.

After weeks of haggling, Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn was unable to facilitate a buyout that would’ve brought the fifth pick in the 2009 draft to the NBA this season.
Ricky Rubio is headed to Barcelona after the Timberwolves fail to reach buyout deal with his Spanish team.

Ehh, wow. I feel bad for the T-Wolves. Even though it was somewhat of a bad and risky pick.

I'm convinced the T'Wolves don't even care about competing.

Maybe they're right and the value of a player who's overseas for 2 seasons and doesn't wanna play for them is > any player available at the spot they drafted him but...i mean really?

The T'Wolves don't care about competing, right now.

You honestly think Rubio is the difference between the team competing this season or even the next?

Kahn busted his ass trying to get Rubio over here this year but the numbers just weren't right. There was only so much he and the T'Wolves could do because of the restrictions the NBA places on teams when it comes to buyouts from other teams.

Rubio will be 20 when his contract is up and comes to the NBA. The Wolves have plenty of young talent to develop in the meantime and expirings to come off the books come next off season.

If you're a T'Wolves fan, now is the time to be patient above all else.

Report: Knicks Making Last Push For Rubio

The Knicks are again pushing to make a trade for Ricky Rubio, according to a league source that spoke with the Star Tribune.

Minnesota would like acquire restricted free agents David Lee, Nate Robinson and a future No. 1 pick in the deal, while receiving cap relief for Mark Blount and Brian Cardinal.

Three separate sources that spoke with Newsday have shot down the Star Tribune's report, at the very least the possibility of Lee being included.

Yeah, I agree. They drafted Rubio and turned around and drafted Flynn, so they must have known something, because there is no way these two players could play together in the backcourt. I think they drafted Rubio and Flynn with the hopes that some team (the Knicks) would overpay to get one of them. However, this hasn't happened.........yet. It was a business gamble on the Wolves part and nothing more.

I support Rubio's decision to stay. They had a deal for him, but he would have gotten no money at all for the next two seasons. In order for the contract to be bought out Rubio would have to give up the first two years of his rookie contract and all the endorsement money eh would have gotten.
