Midwest Round 1 - #5 Michigan St (Archer) vs. #12 New Mexico St (W2BTD)
35
32
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...Up 3, 10 seconds left, Michigan St made a steal, but stepped out of bounds. NMSU missed the ensuing 3, and immediately fouled. Michigan St got called for 5 seconds on the inbound, giving NMSU life. So with 1.3 seconds left, Gordo Castillo (who came off the bench with 2 minutes to go and hit a key 3) missed the 3 at the buzzer, giving Michigan St the win.
W2BTD says...If you think this was a tough loss, keep reading...
Stars of the Game
Michigan St: Kalin Lucas - 22 points
New Mexico St - Hamidu Rahman - 11 points, 7 reboundsComment

Midwest Round 1 - #4 Maryland (W2BTD) vs. #13 Houston (Archer)
47
46
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...Maryland dribbled out the final 1.2 second before Houston could foul.
Key stat - Houston's 11-3 rally to close the game was just a little too late.
W2BTD says...Switching Vasquez to SG in the second half was me trying to get a little too cute. I struggled offensively and let Archer back in the game. I didn't know who Kelvin Lewis was before the game, but I do now...
Stars of the Game
Maryland: Eric Hayes - 17 points
Houston: Kelvin Lewis - 30 pointsComment

Midwest Round 1 - #6 Tennessee (Archer) vs. #11 San Diego St (W2BTD
18
9
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...the game disconnected in the first half. Nice servers, EA.
W2BTD says...We have 58 games left. Sorry San Diego St, i'm not replaying this shit. You were going to lose anyway.
Stars of the Game
Tennessee - Wade Chism scored 20 points. He was that good.
San Diego St - None. Awful team, totally killed my rythum, leading to the subsequent score you are about to read (and laugh) about.Comment

Midwest Round 1 - #3 Georgetown (W2BTD) vs. #14 Ohio (Archer)
31
29
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...Well, technically it was over when Chris Wright's jumper in the paint was blocked as time ran out. But really, it was over when Ohio took the lead late in the first half and never looked back.
Key stat - Ohio had 11 blocks. 11 blocks. Georgetown had 0. Georgetown shot 30% in the first half, and 33% for the game.
W2BTD says...I couldnt get anything going offensively, and it seemed like every time I could get a good look inside, Archer would come flying in with that Dutch m'fer (more on him later) and block the shot. I had at least 4 fast breaks snuffed out by the Flying Dutchman of Ohio.
This game totally had the feel of one of those big first round upsets. Georgetown took an early lead, and as Ohio crept back, you felt the momentum swinging. Once they had the lead, you felt the confidence build, as they started hitting shots and blocking everything in sight. I never felt like I would win once I fell behind, despite the furious late comeback when Archer got sloppy with the ball. Game wasnt nearly as close as the score, and all I can say is...

Ohio: Kenneth Van Kempen, The Flying Dutch M'Fer - 7 points, 8 rebounds, 47 blocks

Midwest Round 1 - #7 Oklahoma St (Archer) vs. #10 Georgia Tech (W2BTD)
42
39
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...James Anderson hit a 3 at the buzzer, after Georgia Tech (behind super sub Glen Rice Jr's barrage of 3's) rallied to tie. Fuck my life.
Key Stat - James Anderson's 20 points. You cant stop James Anderson, and you really can't even hope to contain him.
W2BTD says...This was the sixth game that came down to the final seconds, and was the best overall game so far IMO. I didn't discover Glen Rice Jr was on the team until the second half. Of course I put him in. It's f'n Glen Rice Jr.! He lit it up and helped me get back in it, but James Anderson is a f'n beast and that's all there is to it. Archer utilizes star players very well.
Stars of the Game
Okie St: Marshall Moses - 10 points, 5 rebounds (really, EA? REALLY?)
GT: Gani Lawal - 4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocksComment

Midwest Round 1 - #2 Ohio St (W2BTD) vs. #15 UCSB (Archer)
43
25
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was over when...Ohio St pulled away about 6 minutes into the first half.
Ket stat - UCSB was 7% from 3-point range, and out rebounded 22-12.
W2BTD says...UCSB is terrible. Archer had open looks, and they just couldnt hit. Eventually I didnt even bother trying to cover, and just hung around under the hoop for rebounds. Ohio St cleared the bench and played the walk-ons for the last 2 minutes.
Stars of the Game
Ohio St: Evan Turner - 21 points, 5 rebounds
UCSB: Orlando Johnson - 7 points (scoreless until 5 minutes left)Comment
