I completely agree with Bob. I don't see how you can call someone your favorite if you haven't even seen them live or at least on TV? You see a few tapes of Wilt who is much taller than his opponents dominating and he turns into your favorite player? It's pretty ridiculous actually. Now by me saying this, it does not mean in any way I don't respect them. Trust me, I respect what the old timers have done for this sport. I fully understand without them this sport wouldn't have blossomed into what it is today.

My top 5 (not in order, too tough to list them in order)

Charles Barkley - Absolute beast on the block. I also got to meet him in an elevator after a game.

Gary Payton - The glove was so fun to watch on defense and offense.

Latrell Sprewell - I remember coming home from school and watching the Heat vs Knicks. This guy was real exciting with Allan Houston playing on the wing with him

Dennis Rodman - The only bull on my list, played tough on the boards and did the dirty work for that dynasty.

Steve Nash - He is like a magician out there, some of the stuff he does is pure magic. Also pretty remarkable that soccer was his main sport but he gets it done on the basketball court with a lot less athleticism than his peers/opponents.

First of all I hope you are not getting offended by any of this. This is a message board, its made for these type of things exactly... clean and mature arguments.

Anyways, I know he had a great career and he did some extraordinary things while he was on the court. This gains my respect but doesn't deserve to be on my favorite list. I guess you can base your favoritism on a few highlight reels and a bunch of stat lines but not me.

I base mine off of what I see with my own eyes in the heat of the moment. Their is nothing like seeing a player hit a game winning fade-away LIVE or seeing Dennis Rodman dive into the stands for a loose ball. This is the type of stuff takes makes me fall in love with a certain player.

          nice double post
"From the time he hits the court, he plays at a competitive level that you rarely see," Popovich says. "He does the exact same things that Kobe (Bryant) does, that Michael Jordan did.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean you have to go see the person live and in person. I was trying to say that I felt you have to see him on TV live at least. I haven't been to many games either but to me their is a huge difference between old tapes of players and seeing a game live whether it be on TV or in person. Maybe I should have been more clear with what I was saying.

Kuzzy, i may not have seen bird play, but he's easily one of my favorites from hearing my dad talk about him. My dad is a huge celtics fan and i grew up listening to my dad talk about him and telling me all about his games and stuff. I may not have seen the dude play live, but how does that make me a bandwagoner by listing him as number 2? Your reasoning is flawed bro.

Ok. By your own definition you're pretty much bandwagoning. The bold part is pretty much exactly what you're doing. Mind you its harder to bandwagon on a player than a team, I guess. But whatever man, this argument is old, I dont even really care, feel free to like whoever you want. I dont see how my logic is flawed tho.. my opinion is my opinion, theres nothing flawed about it. Whether or not you agree with it is a different story.

the end of the bold "all of a sudden"

how does me listening to my dad talk about bird for years equal "all of a sudden"?

i grew up listening to those stories

Whats the difference? You're basing your favouritism off someones else' words or after the fact that hes a great player. Thats exactly what bandwagoning is.
Whatever floats your boat man.. Bird was an amazing player.

Lamond Murray used to fill the stat sheet up man. That guy fell off hard.. Lenard too.
