San Diego State's lack of guard play cost them against UConn. They did well running the court and playing up-tempo, but whenever they would claw back into the game they couldn't stop UConn from going on another run.

Florida screwed around all game and almost ended up losing to a vastly inferior BYU team. In all honesty, Jimmer Fredette looked terrible. That was the worst I have seen him play, and he totally botched the overtime. A good synopsis of the Florida team...talented, but not very strong mentally.

Butler-Wisconsin was the most interesting game, IMO. Butler's good players (Mack and Howard) were superior to Wisconsin's good players (Taylor and Leuer). Thats the simplest way to sum things up. Wisconsin made a late run, but were playing from behind virtually the whole game.

I don't understand what happened to Duke. They looked great in the first half, with Derrick Williams being Arizona's only bright spot. Perhaps Duke focused too much on Williams in the 2nd half, but that doesn't really explain the total collapse by Duke. Williams stopped scoring, but everyone else on Arizona piled on the points. Duke's offense was ok, but their defense was terrible. The last time I saw Duke play so bad on defense was their 1991 title game against UNLV.

Some one on the post game(I think Greg Anthony) said he had never seen a Duke team so rattled under Coach K in his entire career.

Butler-Florida: A good summation of both teams' seasons. Florida was bigger and stronger than Butler, and they used it to their advantage for parts of the game, but at other times they just seemed lackadaisical. Butler played tough defense, never got too far behind, and let their great shooting pull them through. Macklin and Tyus were killing Butler inside early in the game, but Florida's guards refused to get them the ball for long stretches. I thought Boynton and Walker had played over their heads all tournament, but they definitely fell back to earth against Butler. Mack was once again great for Butler, and Marshall provided a spark from the bench.

Arizona-UConn: Very sloppy and frenetic game. I thought Kemba Walker wasn't all that involved in the game, but he came through at the end. It was back and forth all game, with neither team able to take control because neither team shot particularly well. The end was fitting, as Arizona had a chance to win but missed two 3-pt attempts.

Kentucky-UNC: Kentucky was in control the entire game, dictating tempo to UNC. Outside of Zeller, every UNC player had a bad game. Henson was particularly horrendous, and Marshall and Barnes seemed content to shoot their team out of the tournament. Kentucky was a total team effort, with different players stepping up at different times. For as much as gets made about John Calipari recruiting athletes and then letting them run wild, he is a WAY better game-day coach than Roy Williams. Williams seemed more concerned about his next tee time than getting his team to press on defense.

VCU-Kansas: VCU wanted to run, Kansas let them. Very poor coaching job by Bill Self. Kansas was up early, but when calls didn't go Kansas' way, Self completely lost it and I think his team fed off his nervousness. From what I saw of Kansas this year, they were tough in half-court sets with the Morris twins getting the ball inside and either posting up or passing it out to Morningstar or Neil for spot-up 3's. Against VCU, Kansas decided to go to a fast break offense, which resulted either in one of the Morris brothers getting a charge, or a Morningstar/Neil/Selby contested and missed 3 pointer. Kansas made a run in the 2nd half and appeared to have VCU on the ropes, but I loved how when they went to commercial break both Morris twins were hunkered over trying to catch their breath. Kansas didn't have the conditioning or the athletes to play uptempo for 40 minutes, and VCU held on.

...or to close out on three-pointers. It was a huge 180 from last year's performance behind the arc for Kentucky last night. Roy also left the game with four timeouts, which is ridiculous considering the amount of tournament inexperience on Carolina's roster.

To me, Kentucky doesn't have overwhelming basketball talent, but they are a solid team with good athletes and big men who can run the floor. Princeton nearly beat Kentucky by slowing down the tempo and making it a half-court game. Although Kentucky beat Ohio State, the Buckeyes had success doing the same thing. It seemed like Roy Williams was content to have UNC run with Kentucky, which was the wrong move...especially when you consider how much success UNC had when they dumped the ball in to Zeller. Zeller had 21 points, but he only had 12 shots in 36 minutes. Instead, Williams allowed Marshall and Barnes to jack up 3 pointers with 27 seconds remaining on the shot clock. Yet another horrible coaching job by Roy Williams.

Congrats to UConn on the win, but i think im with most of America when I say i'd love to see Butler win the title.
