I really don't see why Melo would want to play in NJ and I don't see why NJ would trade away Favors and Harris in hopes of keeping Melo. Billups has already said he doesn't want to play in NJ and Hamilton doesn't have much left, so it would basically be Melo, aging veterans past their primes and a good, but not great Lopez......that isn't a team that could beat Miami, Orlando, Chicago or Boston. Melo should reject this trade, because down the road he'd be in bad situation. NJ should atleast try to keep either Harris or Favors. Melo is a good player, but he isn't a "carry the franchise" caliber of player, so he's going to need help.....and in NJ he won't get it.
Knicks FINALLY acquire Carmelo Anthony (and Chauncey Billups)

I'm not sure I want the Knicks to get Melo...
I'm loving Chandler, and Galo and Fields. I don't want to see anyone leave from this team. All I want is to see Curry +1 leave for a good center.
One player I really want is Carl Landry. If we could land him for Curry+randolph I'd be happy. Then wait for the offseason to get someone.
Melo is a superstar, but Chand is playing great.Comment

As for the salaries...the Nets take on Rip's deal, which is ridiculous, given. Billups has a team option next year, which, could allow them to buy it out this year, or just let him walk after the season.
Overall, the Nets will take on probably $26M in cap for next season which will put them at, or around $42M going into the off-season...which gives them room to make more room via FA (giving up Morrow, Favors, Petro, Harris, and trash gives them that ability).
So, essentially, next year, its Melo, Rip, Lopez, Outlaw, Farmar, and Damion James with money to spend next season.
Its not that bad. Once Rips deal expires in two seasons, you open up more money.
A trade of Outlaw would be nice, as well. You basically have a flood of players at that 3 spot.Comment

Update where things stand now:
New Jersey, Detroit and Denver have the framework of a deal done that includes about 13 players. Jersey and Detroit are pretty much settled. The issue is Denver. Word is they are still trying to get Jersey (or anybody for that matter) to take one of their big contracts in Harrington or Balkman. Denver is also reportedly still looking around to make sure this is the best deal available.
Denver would love to move Harris to Portland for Nicholas Batum. The Mavericks could also be in play for Harris.
According to reports, this is the framework of the deal.
NJ Gets:
F Carmelo Anthony
G Rip Hamilton
G Chauncey Billups
G Anthony Carter
F Shelden Williams
DEN Gets:
2 First Round Draft Picks from Jersey
F Derrick Favors
G Devin Harris
G Anthony Morrow
G Ben Uzoh
G Stephen Graham
G Quinton Ross
DET Gets:
F Troy Murphy
C Johan Petro
2nd Round Draft Pick (from Jersey)
It's only assumed Melo will sign the extension in this situation (hopefully anything DOES happen) although even if he doesn't, Pokrov may be hellbent on bringing in a superstar and if he has to, convincing him over the next few months.

I'm hoping too that way the Melo to NYC rumors die down. I think we're set in 4 spots and just need a center.Comment

Just the thought of seeing the Nets get anything, then having to play Carmelo however many times and their organization thinking they can actually come into NYC and fuck over the Knicks. Fuck them!

Cmon man, if Anthony is available at the end of the year, the Knicks HAVE to sign him. You win in this league with at least 2 superstars. Chances of a major league center falling the Knicks way is as likely as Dallas winning in the playoffs.

UPDATE: According to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard, Billups is now willing to go to New Jersey because the Nets will fully guarantee his $14.2 million salary for 2011-12.
Broussard tweeted: "Chauncey's hesitation to go to NJ not a factor. Billups will get full $14 mill next season from NJ. That was his main concern."Comment

Amare would probably just smash him for the rest of their dual careers.

As a knicks fan i love those guys dont get me wrong, but we would have to give up chandler to get Melo anyway since he will be a unrestricted free agent, we cant sign the both of them even when curry's contract expires at the end of the year.
i just dont wanna lose fieldsComment

Denver's being too damn greedy. They are already getting Favors and two 1st, plus Harris and all the other spare parts...now they want to add Harrington?...smh.
I hope the deal goes through though.Originally posted by Nick MangoldWes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.Comment

oh shit, lmao......Denver 'threatened' to send Carmelo to the Knicks if the Nets don't stop publicizing their trade negotiations.
Upset over the publicity of their trade discussions, the Nuggets ordered the Nets to keep quiet or risk losing Carmelo Anthony.
Before resuming trade talks for Carmelo Anthony(notes) on Monday, the Denver Nuggets delivered a stern warning to the New Jersey Nets: Unless the public nature of these trade discussions becomes private, be warned that we will send Anthony to the New York Knicks.
Nothing else the Nuggets could’ve said would send such chills of unease through the Nets, and that’s why Denver made the threat, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Would the Nuggets do such a thing out of spite? Would they take a lesser package out of vengeance? No one could be sure, but it sure delivered one more element of drama and intrigue to these trade talks.
Indeed, the tone of the discussions between the Nuggets and Nets dramatically changed on Monday. Executives went underground with talks, and several agents were frustrated they could no longer get information from the two teams about where the talks stood. Sources still believed the Nets and Nuggets had the framework of a deal, but the talks had retreated from what one source deemed “really close” on Sunday.
Denver pushed a reset button on the three-team, 13-player blockbuster as it wanted more payroll relief and seemed determined to find a way to shed themselves of the four years and $28 million left on Al Harrington’s(notes) contract. For a young Nuggets management team under siege, this threat was something of a show of muscle.

Small updates (although nothing really new):
- Denver would if they can turn one of the Nets draft picks into Nicholas Batum from Portland
- ESPN's Chris Sheridan "stands by the report" that Carmelo is steadfast in not wanting to sign an extension with anyone except the Knicks. His source says unless Anthony directly tells New Jersey he will sign with them, you can't expect him to fall in line and sign the extension.
- Denver wants New Jersey to take on Al Harrington's insane multi-year deal.
- New Jersey is confident if they can get the trade done with Denver, Anthony will sign with them. Whether or not they will require his signing to make the trade complete is unknown.
- Denver is talking with other teams as a fail-safe in case the deal with Jersey falls through. Houston is the most popular alternate destination because they appear willing to rent Anthony, then do a sign & trade in the off-season.
- At the end of the day, Melo risks $83 million guaranteed if he does not sign the extension. (Guaranteed unless the new CBA cuts down on it, of course)

Frank Isola of the NYDN reports a "source" familiar with the negotiations pegs the Knicks chances of being able to land Melo via trade at 50%, but that nothing will happen anytime soon.
Supposedly (this is news to me), the Nuggets & Knicks have been active in trade talks.
Isola says the Knicks would have to acquire a 1st round pick, accept Al Harrington's bloated contract and give up Eddy Curry's mystical expiring contract plus two of the following three: Danilo Galinari, Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields.
As far as whether Melo would agree to sign an extension with Jersey, the source says it has not come to that but he would consider it.
DENVER - The Knicks remain very much in the hunt for Carmelo Anthony mostly because New York remains the Denver Nuggets All-Star forward's preferred destination.
A person familiar with the negotiations told the Daily News that talks between the Nuggets and Knicks are ongoing and classified the possibility of a deal with New York at "50-50."
"He'd like to play in New York," said the source, who requested anonymity. "But I don't see anything happening soon."
In order for the Knicks to acquire Anthony, team president Donnie Walsh would have to acquire at least one first-round pick to include in the deal.
The Nets can offer Denver the best package because they have multiple first-round picks.
The dilemma for the Knicks is whether or not to gut their roster for a player they could sign as a free agent after July 1. A deal for Anthony would likely have to include two of these three starters -- Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields -- plus Eddy Curry's expiring contract and at least one first-round pick. The Knicks may also have to take on a player with a long-term contract. Al Harrington could be that player.
The Nets are in serious negotiations to complete a deal for Anthony, but the source indicated that no trade is imminent.
As for whether Anthony would sign a three-year, $65 million extension to play for the Nets, the source said "it hasn't gotten to that point yet.
"He's willing to listen to them if he gets close."
Amar'e Stoudemire recently said that he doesn't think the Knicks "need much" to become a contender. In fact, he said on Monday that the team has the pieces to possibly reach the conference finals.
At least one of Stoudemire's former teammates in Phoenix believes that Stoudemire wouldn't be thrilled about adding Anthony while Stoudemire contends that he'd be in favor of adding a superstar.
Anthony was quoted on Monday saying that the Knicks may not want him because they don't want to disrupt their chemistry.
The Knicks are 21-15 heading into Tuesday night's game against the Blazers and are in position to post their first winning season in 10 years.
"Everybody is happy with the team we have and what we're doing," Gallinari said. "We have to control what we can control. We can't worry about what happens on the outside."
