Hawks acquire Kirk Hinrich in 5-player deal

I would love if this happened.

Atlanta Hawks: Point guard search includes Devin Harris » Comment Page 1 | Atlanta Hawks
It seems Hawks GM Rick Sund has cast a wide net in the team’s search for a bona fide point guard.

In addition to Cleveland’s Ramon Sessions, the Hawks also have inquired about New Jersey’s Devin Harris. Those discussions could pick up now that Harris won’t be going to Denver as part of a deal for ‘Melo, who was traded to the Knicks tonight.

Harris, who turns 27 on Sunday, would meet Atlanta’s desire for a capable defender who also can push the pace and create shots for others. But he makes $9.3 million in 2011-12, and adding his salary to the roughly $65 million Atlanta has committed for next season would push Atlanta’s payroll above the current luxury-tax threshold (which could change in the new CBA). Harris also is owed $8.5 million in 2012-13.

It’s not clear whom the Hawks would offer for Harris. Jamal Crawford seems to be the obvious candidate because his expiring $10.1 million contract would allow the Nets to carve out even more cap space for next season–they have just $37 million in committed salaries. Also, the Nets are said to be one of the teams interesting in signing Crawford if he becomes a free agent this summer. But so far there’s been no indication that Sund is looking to move Crawford.

The Hawks also figure to have competition to acquire Harris. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports tweeted tonight: “Dallas, Denver and New Jersey have discussed three-way that would land Harris with Mavs and Felton and Mozgov with Nets, source says.”

However, David Aldridge of TNT and NBA.com later tweeted: “Nuggets will NOT move Gallo/Mozgov to NJ. ‘We got these guys to play for the Nuggets,’ GM Masai Ujiri says.”

EDIT- Hawks traded for Kirk Hinrich, details below.

I think it's a good fit. Crawford is good enough to give the Nets something now then obviously his contract coming off the books would help with some cap relief, which Prokrahov obviously wants, and Harris gives us a young controllable PG for the next two years.

I'd be happy with it, seems mutually beneficial.

        Blazers are a possibility too.

There are probably half a dozen teams interested in Harris right now. Only guarantee, he's being moved this week.

Take Mo Williams off our hands

Would make Atlanta better in the back court imo.

Blazers are always "involved" but they won't pull anything.

what's good with Jeff Teague? he doing well?

Hard to say because his playing time is so irregular. He'll play a good 12-15 minutes one game than be a DNPCD the next. No rhyme or reason to Larry Drew's sub patterns with him.

I don't think he's bad but he's clearly not the difference maker we need at the spot. He should be playing a lot more than he is, but he probably is not the PG of the future. I'd be willing to include him in the deal if we knew we could sign Harris to an extension.

Here's what I was able to work out using the Trade Machine:

                NBA Trade Machine - ESPN

No idea if New Jersey is willing to do that or not, but as I said, I'd be fine with throwing Teague in instead of Mo Evans, which would look like this:

Hawks may go after Ramon Sessions from Cleveland.

                  From YahooSpears's Twitter:
Hawks considering trading guard Jeff Teague and swingman Maurice Evans to Cleveland for guards Ramon Sessions and Manny Harris, source said.

Heard about that too. Seems like a pretty shitty move, IMO. I don't know much about Sessions other than that he has put up a few random huge games in the last few years, but how is he defensively? We really need to improve our perimeter defense because Mike "Blow By Me" Bibby is the worst defensive PG in the league bar none. That's partly why I'm keen on Harris. The other reason being that he's athletic as hell and will improve our pace.

Please don't send Jeff Teague to Cleveland to rot. That would be terrible.

Please move Bibby and/or Crawford.....Bibby has no lateral at all....Crawford is a gunner hit or miss defense is not on his to-do-list....Devin Harris is a upgrade for either, he'll have more weapons at his disposal....

Sekou Smith says Hawks are talking with Wizards for Hinrich too. Wouldn't mind, he's a good defender.

He was pretty mediocre as a defender on the Bucks, I doubt that has changed much in time on the Twolves and Cavs. Not a liability like Bibby by any means though.

Offensively as long as you're not looking for any perimeter shooting whatsoever he is serviceable; great at penetrating and pretty good distributor.

Hawks have traded Bibby, Jordan Crawford, Mo Evans and a first round pick to Washington for Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong.

Eh, pissed about losing Jordan but I'll take it as long as Bibby is gone. Is Hilton Armstrong any more than a stiff these days? Intrigued to see if he can help our front court but haven't seen him much since he left New Orleans.
