    5 More Years for Doc

Happy to hear Jeremiah's dad will have a job for 5 more seasons. I know some Celts fans won't be happy.

I'll post up the story once ESPN posts it.

Globe NBA writer Gary Washburn reports that Celtics president Danny Ainge said today that coach Doc Rivers has agreed to a five-year contract extension to remain with the team.

The deal would keep Rivers in Boston through the 2015-16 season.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported via Twitter the deal was worth $35 million.

After the Celtics were eliminated from the NBA playoffs in five games vs. the Heat, Rivers confirmed he'd likely be back. Yesterday, he confirmed that a contract extension was "basically done."

Rivers had a one-year option to return, but indicated he wanted to get a new deal done quickly to allow the team top focus on improvements for next season.

"I wanted to get this out of the way so we can concentrate on the summer and free agency," Rivers said yesterday.

Rivers believes the Celtics can win another NBA championship if younger players are added to the roster. He also said having one of the Big 3 of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce become a top player off the bench is a possibility.

"Depending on what we can get, that is something you would have to consider," he said.

Good for him. Doesnt bail when the team needs to reload a little.

This is a surprise though. With there probably no NBA next year with a lockout on the horizon, Doc's oldest son will be playing at Duke, his daughter is a hell of volleyball player and another son in High School. I thought he'd take a year or two off to enjoy them. Hell he's only 50

If there's a lock out next season, he'll have more than enough time to enjoy his son's only year at Duke. Austin will be playing either for or against his dad after next season. That's pretty cool to know that you will be coaching in the same league as your son for at least 4 seasons.

Jeremiah is the only son that matters, though.

im going to assume Jeremiah is the one going to Duke? You should be ashamed of yourself growing up in Philly sticking for Duke. You're probably a cowboys fan too.

I thought about that with the lockout after I posted, he will have his deal in place if there are no negotiations allowed and get the year off.

Jeremiah's at Indiana...but no one really knows that because Indiana's irrelevant.

                Nope.
These are the teams I follow: Phillies, Sixers, Eagles, Flyers, Union, Indiana Hoosiers, UConn Huskies (football more so, my brother played there) and Indianapolis Colts when the Eagles aren't on.

I couldn't name any players on the Union, though.

                    That would be Austin.

Indiana's irrelevance will be short-lived. All hail Cody Zeller.

                        What's their beef with Rivers?

I'd kill to have him coach the Knicks.

I have no clue. I think Yawk was talking bad about Doc. Could be wrong.

Doc is so overrated. Hes a great leader/motivator but his play calling/x and o's are garbage. The real genius on the staff was Thibs and hes now gone. By year 5 of this contract, Celtics fans will be begging for a change (if he makes it that far).

The old age of his star players will be a scapegoat for any short comings he has.
