    Noah fined 50k for saying

Lol at fining Kobe 100k and making a big deal about it, then fining Noah only 50k. This whole thing is just posturing on the leagues part, pretending to care about something just so they can save face and avoid bad press.

Salary wise Kobe makes 24.8 million, Noah makes 3.1. Doing some quick math noah's fine takes a larger % of his salary away. 1.6% compared to 0.4%.

    edit:
Kobe got fined 50k more though for verbally abusing an official.

For those wondering, Kobe Bryant's fine was $50,000 more than Joakim Noah's because he was docked extra for "verbally abusing an official." - Alex Kennedy

they should be throwing out fans. also maybe not have cameras trained on players faces at all times.

    passion comes at a price.

          Does it matter?

Players know the deal, if you can't control what you say, shut up. It pays to keep quiet.

I kinda agree with that. I think fans can get a bit too carried away sometimes. Yes, you paid for your ticket ... but that doesn't give you an unlimited right of free speech.

I assume he called Noah something worse than a faggot.

I imagine a lot of guys hear racist crap all the time.

That said, the NBA does have to fine in these cases.

Apparently, the fan made some really, really bad references to Noah's mom. Not sure what it was, but I doubt it was as simple as "your mother's a whore".

Van Gundy was right last night during the game when he was talking about this.

TV broadcasts love showing players head to the bench when they get in foul trouble and it backfired. NBA got caught with it's pants down and gay activists pounced on the opportunity. Now they hand out these fines but it's just for show. Of course they have an excuse but why fine Kobe 100k then fine Noah 50k when he went out and did it ignoring the precedent that had been set?

I don't think this actually changes anything or makes the world better for gays because the NBA doesn't care about gay people, they just don't want the bad press.

Like you said, Kobe got a $50k+ for talking about the officials.

I have no problem with the NBA trying to police its players behavior.

Like Van Gundy said, shouldn't insulting a fan be worse? They're paying customers. If an official is 50k shouldn't a fan be at least > 0?

Was Kobe fined when he told a ref "fuck you" to his face back in December?

that was another instance I believe, not the instance where he was fined for the homophobic slur..

They don't want bad press from using derogatory words for the world to see...if I'm a commissioner or an owner, I'd do what I could to curb that stuff, too.

That's my whole point, they're doing it just to avoid bad press. I think that cheapens the real "issue".

The issue is they don't want their players being broadcasted shouting derogatory words.

Besides, if they didn't....GLAAD and other such groups would be up their ass. (no pun intended)

Paying for a ticket to see an event doesn't give you license to act like an asshole to the performers you go to see.

Yes, Noah should have held his tongue but it should have been on the stadium security to bounce the fuckhead that was bothering him in the first place.
