For the most part they were the ones doing the fucking. Nobody was forcing the owners to hand out terrible contract after terrible contract.

But I agree, this shit needs to be fixed. This is the direct opposite of the NFL lockout in every way. It's absolutely necessary for the health of the league.

I've been reading about the history of the league ([ame="http://www.amazon.com/FreeDarko-Presents-Undisputed-Basketball-History/dp/1608190838/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309528993&sr=8-1"]great book[/ame]). Pretty interesting stuff about how the CBA came to be and how fucked the players rights and pretty much the whole system was before it. Oh how the tables have turned.
