"We talked" doesnt exactly sound like being "on board". Kobe isnt stupid, most guys in the league know Mike Brown is one of the most boneheaded coaches out there. Fortunately for him I dont really think anyone has to coach this team for it to have remote success.

He's a decent defensive coach, but honestly a 3rd grader could draw up better offensive plays.

I understand the move by the Lakers. It was him, Rick Adelman, or inexperience. Was Adelman the better choice? Possibly. He's also older though and hasn't been anywhere significant in a long time. His most recent claim to glory is a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the WCF years back.

Mike Brown is a great defensive coach. Let's not forget Cleveland was one of the best, if not the best, defensive teams in the NBA during Brown's tenure. They also rebounded near the top of the league.

Offensively, he stunk up the joint. However, that was a team crafted around isoing LeBron James every single time down the floor. The players that were put around LeBron James were guys set up to benefit from LeBron isoing every time down the floor.

What does he have in LA? He now has two post players who instantly become the two best post players he's ever coached. They are 1000000x times better than what he had in Cleveland.

He also has a superstar who is a lot more experienced than LeBron was at the time (or still is for that matter). Everyone seems to believe that the triangle is going to go out the window. That it's going to be iso-Kobe every play. That the Lakers are suddenly going to forget how to run an offense. Their cast is/will be largely the same. They have talent all across the board. They have basketball intelligence and leadership all over the floor.

So when you look at what the Lakers did in the post-season. All of the talk about the unselfishness. The unwillingness to help out on defense. The fact that they only became physical when the series was over. All of that. Now you take Mike Brown, a guy who is going to coach them up to be tough and physical and give their all 48 minutes a game... Does that really sound like a bad idea?

Or was Rick Adelman the better choice? Let's give even more attention to the offense and be the showtime Lakers of old (kinda hard to push the tempo even more when Kobe's legs have the mileage on 'em that they do). As the Mavericks and Heat showed in the playoffs, it's defense that wins championships (or gets to the Finals for that matter).
