NBA Lockout discussion. *Update 11/14* Union to Decertify
The players are actually pretty lucky that they got some of the concessions that they did. Yes, overall they lost (badly), but the owners threw them quite a few bones.
1. NBA Draft Eligibility
Players want to keep it as is which means incoming rooks must be 19-years old & 1 year out of high school.
Owners want to bump it up to 20-years old & 2 years out of high school.
Looks like players will budge and owners will get what they want. Among the players effected would include UConn's Andre Drummond and Kentucky's Anthony Davis, both of whom would have to wait until 2013 to enter the league.
2. Round 3 in NBA Draft
Owners want another round in the draft to control costs better and give them more bodies for the NBADL.
3. Drug Testing
Owners want more stringent testing
4.Commissioner's Ability to Discipline
5. The NBADL
Owners want to be able to send players down for up to 5 years and pay them less when doing so.
The NBA and its players knew they had to compromise. No one gave a f--k. If the NBA season had been cancelled, other than the real workers (arena employees, bars and restaurants near the arena, etc...), no one would have give a crap.
I'm happy for the real workers and side businesses who need the NBA, but at the end of the day this dispute meant nothing to most sports fans.
Rashard Lewis is still gonna make $20M or so a year. So is Gilbert Arenas.
