Why doesn't the Magic GM just tell Howard 'listen big guy, IF we CHOOSE to trade you, i'll decide where you go based on what's best for the Magic, not what's best for you'.

      It's insane.
Unlike most leagues, the players actually have some leverage. Teams that may have better packages won't be willing partners with Orlando because Dwight won't sign there. If the Orlando GM were to no entertain trades, he'd be handcuffing himself to getting nothing. Whatever package he gets, at least it is something and I assume it will contain the added bonus of dumping Hedo's terrible contract

As much as I agree with the fact that it sucks, how is it different than any other sport? The NBA's issue is their salary cap isn't a real salary cap, it's almost as though it doesn't exist.

At least the players are honest and let NBA teams know that they won't re-sign with them, unlike other sports where a guy like Beltran can be traded and then walk. NFL is really the only sport with a good model, and baseball is just as bad as the NBA.

At least in baseball, teams get compensation picks. NBA needs to start allowing compensation picks for when teams lose tier 1 stars. This way, a team can feel okay with letting a player go to free agency as they'll get compensated for it. Then, all the big teams wouldn't be able to sign these free agents unless they offered an MLE, which no star would ever take.

The NBA is an example of a poor financial system made even worse by too much expansion. If there were only 20-24 teams I doubt we'd be having a lot of the same issues.

          1. Grant Hill was ready to come to NY until the Knicks lowballed him with a $2.5 mil over 1 year offer. He ended up returning to PHX with a $6.5 mil, 1 year deal.

          2. The Magic are apparently still considering filing tampering charges against the Nets. If there is proof somewhere that anyone with the Nets met with Howard Thursday, they are looking at serious consequences. Suspensions of team officials, loss of draft picks, fines, etc.

          3. The Knicks will send G Andy Rautins and a trade exception ($11-$13 mil) to the Mavericks for C Tyson Chandler in a sign and trade. The Mavs will then buy out Rautins.

Could Dallas be building up assets to acquire Howard?

          4. The Knicks are expected to sign 2010 2nd round pick C Jerome Jordan and bring him to the NBA. The 7-footer has played in Slovenia since last season.

          5. The Wizards are expected to acquire C Ronny Tauriaf from NY, possibly for a 2nd round draft pick. This deal must go down before the Knicks can officially acquire Chandler from Dallas (along with Billups being waived via amnesty clause).

More issues I have with the NBA system. These buyouts are bullshit.

The worst is around the trade deadline, where teams give away half the roster for nothing, and then veteran players refuse to report thus forcing a buyout. Then they sign with a contender.

What was the point of this lockout again?

Bibby expected to sign a 1-year deal with the Knicks but they are pushing to bring in JJ Barea.

The problem with that is the NBA draft is stupid, gay, and dumb. There's like 20 worthwhile prospects, 8 or 9 of whom will turn out to be decent players. You can't give them comp picks in the middle of round 1, where they need to have a good shot to make a difference, because you can't just bypass whole franchises for one. Best case scenario, you give them a pick after pick 30. Then, they're choosing from a group (31-40 ish) who produces about 60% guys who are out of the league in 5 years and about 20% guys who are just warm bodies like Ronny Turiaf. In the NFL, drafts are deep with valuable guys in round 3 and 4. In the MLB, the top guys have elite potential, but there's value afterward. In the NBA, it's like a lottery ticket after pick 25. Could hit the jackpot, but chances are it's not worth anything. Besides, every other pick ends up getting traded around like a damn Christmas game with presents that aren't worth anything to begin with.

The NBA is just a messed up situation all around. The players dictate it WAY too much. And now that this "super teams" idea is out there, I have great confidence that 80% of elite NBA players are going to follow suit because the NBA is like a league for little kids just getting their way 24/7. Watch Paul get traded after not reporting and threatening to sue. Why? Because he's REALLY good, and he wants to play for the Lakers.

A couple years ago there was that show on MTV about girls throwing sweet sixteen parties with frivolous amounts of their parents money. It's crazy how much the NBA is like a Dad to the top players' spoiled rotten daughter. Chris Paul was just innocently trying to leverage his way out of New Orleans a year early because he wants to be on one of these super-hyped teams, and these idiot owners want to veto it because it's not good for the product or like over half the league or something. Papa Stern, do something about this.

Part time player at best. Still a better option than Mike Bibby who at 33 years of age is for all intents and purposes finished.

Ray Felton sure seems good right about now.

The lockout changed nothing. The players still call all of the shots, and largely dictate where they will play. It will never change until there is a hard cap, and real, damaging compensation to teams signing big FA's.

20+ teams will still never win, and thus continue losing money. The owners won the fights, but it appears they picked the wrong ones. They won short sighted stuff like the BRI split, etc, but this new deal does nothing to fix the large market/small market/power team issues.

There is still no reason for a Bucks or Kings fan to buy a season ticket, unless they luck out in a lottery. Even then, the player will bolt to whatever team he feels like for pennies on the dollar. Awesome league.

Yes a good complimentary player but in this system he will flourish. He has terrific speed, runs the pick and roll extremely well and actually plays some defense. His shot is decent and we wouldn't need him to do much scoring on the first unit. The second unit could then be on Douglas.

Marc Stein (ESPN) reports the Warriors will sign C DeAndre Jordan to a 4-year, $40 mil offer sheet tomorrow.

Seriously isn't that sad? I feel myself almost hoping players on my team don't become superstars because then they will bolt to play with other ones for a bigger team. It's just sad that a league has only maybe 6 good teams who can compete and then the others are praying they get the first pick in the draft.

Lakers are done trying to get Paul.

They are trading Odom to Dallas for draft considerations.

LA is going after Howard now.
