Is Mark Jackson in over his head?

We all saw the terrible decision to end the game last night, when Jackson opted to have Monta Ellis, who was scorching hot, inbound the ball with 1.1 seconds left. Brandon Rush forced a contested shot and it fell woefully short, while Ellis watched from the boundary.

This is not the first late game screw up for Jackson, and I doubt it will be the last. Do you guys think he can learn on the job and eventually become a competent coach, or does he just not have what it takes?

I personally think there's a steeper learning curve with a first time basketball coach than there is in the other pro leagues. I think he can eventually get a feel for how to manage a rotation and crunch time minutes, but he's got a long way to go.

There is no learning curve that tells you to use Monta as the inbound passer, there's only common sense. Couldn't believe my eyes...

I don't like throwing coaches under the bus after less than half a season gone by, under normal circumstances. Given the circumstances this year, coming in as a new coach with no TC and basically just having to wing it, it was always going to be tough. Not to mention, it's not like he's working with much in Golden State. They really are not a good team.

The late game stuff and all that comes with experience. If it was this time next year and it was still as bad then you could say something's gotta give. But right now, it's too soon.

Rush is the NBA leader in 3 pt % and currently on pace to set an all time record if he keeps up this pace. I don't mind how that unfolded at all. Ellis has been not his normal Ellis this year, and we have lost a handful of games on his bad turnovers or missed shots this year down the stretch. He has been very hard to watch this year.

However, the answer to your question to Mark Jackson is still yes. I could probably sit here and type a lengthy post to everything I've seen in the the first 22 games I've watched. Granted he has no coaching experience, but it's managements fault for putting someone in there with no experience and thinking he would do ok.

The W's have actually gone to the half with the lead or tied in 3/4 of all their games this year. Jackson has made horrible horrible adjustments. The basis of his sub patterns are 5 starters in, then 5 bench players in. Sometimes he will do this for a full quarter without any subs. last night was different because of the injury to Nate, it threw it off a bit. He says he is a "flow" coach. He refuses to call timeouts, won't stop runs when he is supposed to, and never chews out players. 10 of the 14 losses have come 2nd half of the game or late in games. He starts Beans, but then never brings him back in the game. He consistently gives Udoh heavy minutes, and he does nothing on the floor.

The W's aren't as bad as their record. We have decent starters and a great bench. The huge glaring problem was once Kwame Brown went down management did NOTHING to bring in another big man. They are content with beans and udoh. It's been brutal as a fan because I really think with a better coach, we could have been somewhere around .500.

Here are some of the 2nd half and late game collapses:
Here are how some games unfolded that we were winning or tied at the half:

up on the clippers at the half = loss
Up 8 on the spurs at the half,,,and still up with under 6 min left,,,loss
Up 8 on the Lakers = loss
Up 4 on the jazz late = loss
Up 4 on Orlando at the half = loss
Up on the Nets at the half and in the 4th = loss
Up late on the Pacers under 3 minss = loss
Up 16 on Memphis in the 4th = loss
Up at the half on sacto = loss in Ot
up 4 on OKC under 4 min = loss

That's 10 of the 14 losses right there

I disagree with this. I think they are better than their record is. Most of the games we have gone to the half with the lead, and have led late late in 4th qtrs only to lose. We have a great bench, and some great role players. So many games I can't believe how we ended up losing. I don't think many people or east coasters are watching the end of the games at 12:45 est to see what unfolds. And I'm not sure you would want to,,,lol
