Brittney Griner Dunks. No one should care

When will women's basketball realize that in order to be taken serious they need to stop losing their shit when someone dunks?

    ZOMG! She dunked. Great.

The best was the commentary on it. To try and drum it up they said it was a drop step left handed dunk. Neither of which was true.

I'm sick and tired this time of year being told that I should really take women's basketball seriously..then the game's best player dunks a ball and the world explodes

    lol, by who?

ESPN only airs it because they air anything with any semblance to sports/games.

ESPN, analysts, who try to drum it up as though it's good, etc.

Change the channel. I'm sure ESPN2 must have some poker or something.

It's better than Comcast's morning show.

                That is definitely true.

Thus, I don't watch TV in the morning.

I'm not afraid to admit that I watch and enjoy women's basketball. I actually was watching the game when it happened. I can see what you're saying, but you're looking at it from a "guy" perspective. We all know dunking is something simple, but in the women's game where the game is played below the rim this is a big deal. There are a few 6'8 players in women's basketball, but none of them have the athleticism or skillset Griner has. A women taking one step and dunking is a big deal.

I actually like watching Griner play, because she has really improved her game since she was a freshman. Not that it matters to most on this site, but she'll probably go down as arguably the greatest women's college basketball player along side Sheryl Miller, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi.

Elena Delle Donne is really good as well.

                    She could get it.

Kinda reminds me of a "middle class man's" Hope Solo

To your overall point, I see what you are saying a bit, but at the same time if Women' basketball wants to take it self seriously and grow at all I'm not sure that it helps to blow up an occurance that the rest of the basketball world sees on a nighly basis.

A guy I coach with says women's absketball is impressive because of how "physical" it is.

I just kind of :joeybats: at him and say well it seems like that because for the most part the players aren't good enough to get seperation and the entire game is played slower, below the rim, and by worse/weaker athletes than the men's sport. Some of the contact that men's players deal with on a play by play basis and shrug off would floor some women's players so I never really saw that being a valid "plus" for the women's game.

Della Donne is sort a poor man' Hope Solo....LOL

For the most part women's sports will never really get the respect, because as a society we really don't care for women athletes and the only one's that really matter have to be attractive.

I don't understand how she doesn't dunk more often, that didn't look difficult at all.

Would of been better if she actually piped it on some dyke.
