    Vinny Del Negro losing Clippers?

With the Los Angeles Clippers in free fall, tensions are high in the club's locker room, most notably in the relationship between coach Vinny Del Negro and his players, according to several sources close to the situation.

"Vinny has lost the team," one source said. "They don't want to play hard for him."

With the Clippers having lost 11 of their past 18 games to turn this once-promising season into a mess, Del Negro's job security would certainly seem to be in jeopardy. As it is, Del Negro is in the final guaranteed season of his contract (the Clippers hold a team option for next season).

Most of the players, according to sources, believe it's time for a change. They cite the uncertainty of Del Negro's rotation as a major problem. With the front office having added several players to the roster throughout this shortened season -- Reggie Evans, Kenyon Martin, Bobby Simmons and Nick Young -- plus Eric Bledsoe's return from injury in February, players' minutes have fluctuated from game to game.

For instance, in one four-game stretch this month, Bledsoe played 6 minutes one game, 16 the next, then 4 minutes, then 17. And while starting at shooting guard, Randy Foye has played 35 minutes on some nights and 14 or 16 on others. This week, he lost his starting job to Young and did not play a minute in Tuesday's loss to Indiana.

Beyond that, players have complained that Del Negro's offensive and defensive schemes are too basic and predictable and they say he plays favorites when handing out criticism, according to the sources. They say while he refuses to harshly criticize stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, he does not hold back in jumping on the team's lesser players.

"That's a big problem," one player said. "The best coaches jump on whoever deserves it, no matter who it is."

After beating Miami, Oklahoma City, Orlando and the Los Angeles Lakers en route to a 19-9 start, the Clippers, who have an 11-13 record since Chauncey Billups went down with an Achilles injury, have fallen to the fifth seed in the Western Conference and are just two games ahead of ninth-place Utah.

We all know what this means. I'd expect him to be fired soon. I always thought the Clips biggest issue would be their coach.

The Clips lost to New Orleans last night.....it's not looking good for the Del Negro. BTW, Jason Smith just doesn't care....LOL. He took Blake Griffin out! The foul reminded me of early 90's basketball.

Agreed. The playing favorites thing isn't cool but complaining over inconsistent minutes is ridiculous. Maybe you aren't good enough to get consistent minutes and your coach is trying to play the hot hand.

Villain, when I watched the Clippers opening game, I saw Mo Williams steaming after being taken out. I said then VDN's going to have a tough time keeping these cats happy.

Yeah, I remember that. I think Mo is okay without starting now. He's been able to finish out more than a few games, but man... The talent is there. They have all they need and they are still losing. Dude's gotta go. One of the reasons why losing Chauncey hurts so much is that he was like the coach on the floor (along with Chris Paul) and even injured, he was physically away getting treatment until last weekend. I hate seeing DeAndre Jordan getting 8 minutes of play time because he's in foul trouble. I hate seeing Kenyon Martin playing center.

d'antoni would fucking kill it with the clippers. fantastic roster for his system except for maybe deandre jordans pathetic jumper (well, and Blakes too, but Blake could reasonably be expected to become Pre Microfracture Stoudemire).

if donald sterling has any sense at all he'll throw the bank at him in the offseason, make him defacto general manager, then kick back while he sells out every home game for the next 6 years, steals the carpet right out from under the Lakers (an aging roster with terrible management/coaching) and competes for championships.

Hey Griffin made a 3 the other day...

...just saying. Also, I don't want D'Antoni if it means losing Olshey. Neil Olshey has been a fuckin' stud since he took the reigns.

It don't think it has to do with crying about minutes as much as consistency. If a QB was being swapped every other series one game, then allowed to play a whole game, then back to swapping in and out, the fans would be birching about not being able to get into rhythm. It is no different here except basketball players actually have less time to practice this season.

I don't think players mind being benched or not getting tons of minutes, but as long as there is consistency in playing time (ie. better play = more minutes, play well for a while and you move up the rotation, etc.). No one wants to deal with the rules being changed constantly.
