Harringon Traded To Knicks, Crawford Headed To Golden State

Donnie Walsh is set to pull the trigger on his first substantive move as Knicks president, The New York Post has learned. Knicks sources said a deal for Al Harrington was to go through late yesterday, but was delayed until today. A league conference call is scheduled for this morning that would bring the disgruntled Warriors forward to the Knicks, presumably for Malik Rose. Harrington has two years left on his deal--currently $9.3 million with $10M guaranteed on tap in 2009-10. Rose, attractive to the Warriors because of his expiring contract, is set to make $7.64 million this year. The deal can be made one-for-one because their salaries are within 25 percent (plus 100G) of each other.

    New York Post

One for one? What a fucking rip off. Looks like the Warriors are just gonna use this as a rebuilding year. Harrington would fit well in D'Antoni's system.

holy shit, lol, where do the Bobcats end up in the mix?

They released 2 players yesterday in what seems to be making room for a G-Wall blockbuster.

Sometimes it's not just the moves that are made, but the timing of said moves. This afternoon the Charlotte Bobcats waived two players: Andre Brown and Linton Johnson III. A couple of weeks ago this would have raised no eyebbrows. Teams were cutting their rosters down to the required 15 for the start of the regular season. Now, however, it is more than a little suspisious. There has been plenty of trade talk surrounding the Bobcats, who have made all but public overtures to the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers, and are openly shopping Gerald Wallace in their desire to land a true center to play next to Emeka Okafor. Now they've suddenly waived two players, taking their roster down to 13. Sounds like the Bobcats have a taker, and that in the deal they're getting back more players than they're sending out. According to a couple of well-informed sources the Bobcats have been aggressively working the phone lines as they watch their attendance drop in direct proportion to their winning percentage. It sounds like we could see a huge move made by the Bobcats in the next few hours.

our trade showed we werent afraid to trade a great player. although, i think weve been playing better imo, got Lakers tonight, possible win, hell, we beat the Celtics, same team that had like a what, 30 pt lead over the Pistons, but they almost had a great comeback.

i feel bad for Warrio fans, first Davis leaves, next Ellis fucks up and goes out, then they trade a good player, for almost nothing, looking on his Wiki page, hasnt produced much since his days in San Antonio imo

The Nuggets have definitely been playing better. Billups may not be as good as Iverson but he is a better fit for Denver. And that's what matters.

Warriors, Knicks agree on Crawford-Harrington deal

The Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks have received league approval to complete a trade that will swap disgruntled Warriors forward Al Harrington for Knicks guard Jamal Crawford.

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher confirmed the league's signoff after reporting early Friday morning that the teams were nearing completion on a deal featuring Harrington and Crawford.

Although neither team has commented, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the deal involves no other players and will be formally announced later Friday.

            Al Harrington

            Harrington

            Jamal Crawford

            Crawford

Harrington went public with a trade demand just before the start of the season after privately urging Golden State to move him for months. New York had immediate interest, seeing the versatile and mobile Harrington as an ideal frontcourt fit in new coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo system.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh, furthermore, might be Harrington's biggest fan in the league; he drafted the 28-year-old in 1998 with Indiana, and brought him back to the Pacers in a deal with Atlanta in the summer of 2006. But Harrington's second stint with the Pacers lasted only a half-season before he was dealt to Golden State in January 2007, along with Stephen Jackson.

            Deal Or No Deal?
See how the proposed Jamal Crawford-Al Harrington deal looks in the ESPN.com NBA Trade Machine.

Reuniting with Harrington will come at a cost for Walsh: It will require the Knicks to part with Crawford, their leading scorer and another player they had pegged to flourish under D'Antoni. The Warriors, according to NBA front-office sources, see Crawford as a versatile guard who, although not a pure floor leader, can function well in coach Don Nelson's system while Monta Ellis recovers from ankle surgery -- and in tandem with Ellis once he returns.

Yet it's believed that Walsh has multiple motivations for re-acquiring one of his favorites. Another sizable lure is Harrington's contract, which pays him $9.2 million this season, $10 million next season and expires after the 2009-10 campaign. That meshes with New York's intent to slice payroll and get as far under the salary cap as possible for the highly anticipated free-agent summer of 2010 to join the bidding for Cleveland's LeBron James, who could be in that class.

Crawford is scoring 19.6 points per game this season after averaging a career-best 20.6 points per game and 5.0 assists last season. Assuming Crawford declines a player option to become a free agent in July 2009, his deal would run through the 2010-11 season, paying $8.6 million this season, $9.4 million in 2009-10 and $10 million in 2010-11.

Harrington has played only five games this season, averaging 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds before missing Golden State's past six games with a back injury. Nelson told ESPN.com on the first weekend of the season that the Warriors would "try to accommodate" Harrington, but not when the Knicks were looking to part with center Eddy Curry as opposed to Crawford.

The Warriors and Knicks have agreed in principle on a deal sending disgruntled forward Al Harrington to New York for Jamal Crawford.

MAKES NO SENSE. How the hell are they going to fit Jamal into their rotation?

              he did?

I'm really starting to think Chris Mullin is an idiot. This trade makes sense in numerous ways for new york but close to none for GS.

I can understand Al wanting out and being disgruntled but w/e. lol

They wont be playing yet. The next game maybe but definitely the one after that, barring injuries.
