Exactly. They were superior to the Bulls in that game.

But the best team was whichever team had Tom Chambers (Supersonics or Suns). Hit the "A" button when Chambers gets anywhere inside the 3-pt line, and immediate dunkage no matter who/what is standing in his way.

And that was all based on that one damn dunk he had on Mark Jackson...

Pretty sure he's Suns in that game. Also a great team. I think last time I played it I scored like 80 with Chambers.

I had an older version (Bulls v. Lakers), and the Suns had West, Chambers, Ceballos (?), Hornacek (!), and Kevin Johnson (!). Pretty unstoppable for arcade basketball. The Sixers still had Barkley, but the team was terrible...Bol, Mahorn, Barkley, Ron Anderson, Dawkins. Easily the worst team in the game.

Lakers vs. Celtics and the NBA Playoffs was one of the first Genesis games I got...loved seeing all the special moves guys had. Barkley had that two handed jam from the free throw line, Chambers had his flying from just inside the 3 pt line, Jordan had his leap from the FT line (got a real cool reverse move in Bulls vs Blazers).

Larry Bird played in the Olympics. But only played in two games. Same with Stockton.

Correction, Bird played in every game of the Olympics. I was looking at the TOA's for the last post.

Hmm...I stand corrected. I thought he was out because of his back, but guess that was mostly the Tournament of the Americas. Didn't do too poorly either...

Only two players shot below 50% in that Olympics for the US...Jordan and Laettner. Jordan tried the most shots, by far. Barkley shot 71%(!) from the field, and led the team in scoring.

I'd say simply from having a more balanced team, Shaq and Olajuwon the 1996 team was probably better, but it's hard to determine who is actually better, because the 1992 and 1996 team's were so dominant. It's not as if the 1992 team needed Shaq or Olajuwon. I will say that the 1992 team had a lot more pressure, but again given the competition that probably is a moot point.

This era of basketball was and is so fascinating to me. Who else is getting the book this doc was based on when it comes out in July?

What was so interesting to me too is that Jordan was clearly at his peak as a player. It was obvious to everyone, yet Magic and Bird were still trying to prove they were top dogs despite Magic having missed the last season and Bird being crippled with a balky back.
