The cap hit for Houston will be an average of the three years, not each year's value though. If Chicago matches they have to take the cap hit for the actual salary, so it was more or less structured to fuck them over.

Asik officially signed the offer sheet.

Houston continues screwing with the east.

Bulls really had better not match this though, huge cap killer in that 3rd year.

Ummmmm, it does change. Asik would have been paid the same amount yearly on either team, but with the Poison Pill provision under the new CBA Houston's cap figure can average the three years. If Chicago would have matched they'd have had to pay and their cap figure would reflect the 5/5/15 structure.

Same exact thing as with Jeremy Lin.

Exactly, it is actually an older provision to allow teams to keep their players, but teams have abused it to make it salary cap hell for the original team. For instance, say someone had a contract for 3 years totalling 24 million dollars, but the salary was 4, 5, and 15 million in each year. The original team's cap hit per year would be 4, 5, and 15 million. The new team's cap hit would be 8, 8, and 8 million.
