Lakers and Mike D'Antoni Agree to a 4-Year Deal

    Mike Bresnahan ‏@Mike_Bresnahan
Mike D'Antoni signed a four-year deal with the Lakers. Phil Jackson was "asking for the moon," accoring to source familiar w/ the situation.

I would have preferred Jackson, as I am not a big D'Antoni fan. I'lll hold off on calling him "Pringles" as jeffx prefers, but we shall see.

WOW. This surprises me that they couldn't get Jackson. Dantoni with all those weapons is interesting and if anyone can win with that system you would think it's Howard, Kobe, Nash and Gasol.

The biggest issue for D'antoni is defense. With Howard in the middle it helps alot. With Steve Nash I rather have D'antoni.

It's almost a middle finger at Kobe and Gasol. This is WAY better for Howard and Nash than it is those other two. Jesus, at this rate Nash will be playing even after Kobe retires. Howard is gonna be like a junkyard dog with a broken leash in the paint and D'antoni won't have to say a word to him.

              This makes my head spin

Kobe has been family friends with dantoni his entire life. Dantoni and kobes father have a great relationship. I'm pretty sure the lakers wouldn't have hired dantoni if Kobe said no.

IMO this was the best hire for the lakers going forward. Phil Jackson, while one of the greatest of all time, would have been coming out of retirement for the third time and no way he would have stayed longer than this year. Dantoni gives them a system which plays to the strengths of the team. Let's be honest, dwights help defense should be enough to allow lakers to win games. On offense I wouldnt be surprised to see a high low game with dwight and pau on the blocks and Kobe and Nash at the top of the key just working the pick and roll/pop all day with whoever has the better matchup.

There's also the concept of consistency. Phil was not coming back for more than a year or two regardless if they win a championship every year. If dantoni does well he has plenty of years left in coaching so they won't be sitting in the same situation in 2 years without Kobe

I do find it hilarious they started with a coach known for good defense and no offense in Mike Brown and fired him for an offensive minded and defensively retarded coach in Mike Dantoni

D'Antoni's team weren't THAT awful last year. I think he just needs the horses to do it, especially a rim protector like Howard since most guys are going to blow by Nash pretty quickly.

Biggest issue for me is lack of a true floor spacing SG/SF.

After getting canned by Melo, D'antoni is over this roster.
