Warner, you think Umass has a real shot at joining? Basketball program is improving I believe, and they're a new FBS-football school, with no real program.

There was also a report out that last week that they may want to move back down to FCS.

Yeah, it all depends how the football thing shakes out. The schools who have FBS football who have shown interest have been meet with lukewarm response because these guys don't want to go down that road again.

For now, the goal is schools who clearly put basketball first. And that means no FBS football.

They are also looking at natural on court & recruiting rivals. Nova is pushing for LaSalle & St Joes, Georgetown is pushing for VCU, and now im hearing Providence wants Rhode Island considered.

That was a misleading report. Umass FACULTY wants them to move back down to FCS. Has nothing to do with administration or athletic officials, it's essentially just professors. I really don't know why they want this to happen, but it's definitely bizarre.

The seven Catholic schools that plan to leave the Big East to form their own basketball conference expect to double their money off a television deal, according to sources.

FOX Sports with $500M deal on the table for the new league, which is waaaaay more per school than the C7 would have gotten on the Big East sinking football ship. A deal of this size might even convince the schools to pay the exit fees so they can start play next season.

What we have here, is FOX & NBC bidding against each other to acquire a potential hot property for their new cable sports networks. This is exactly how I figured it would play out. The timing couldn't be better for these schools to have made this move.

I like NBC Sports, they just need some programming. They do a solid jerb on live events and the channel is already located in a convenient spot on my DTV dial, I can easily work it into my 206-213 rotaish, so I really hope this new marquee hoops conference lands there.

Gonzaga blog quoting JT3 concerning C7 possibly being a national league and the idea of Gonzaga & St Mary's jumping on board.

The $500M on the table from FOX is enticing to A10 & WCC schools who won't sniff that otherwise. Logistics is an issue for the west coast schools though.

The best thing for sports fans to hope for, is that FOX, NBC, or CBS land this leagues TV rights for their upstart cable networks, because these networks need credible programming if they are to challenge ESPN on any front (most importantly, news gathering). ESPN has been the only name in the game for too long. NHL on NBC Sports Net, & UFC on FOX Sports 1 is a start, but this new league would be a good coup, and they need to start snatching up other properties as they come available.
