Would not want to coach this horrible team if I were a head coach. You're in a big market and are going to get blamed by a billionaire Russian and the fans for when Gerald Wallace and Joe Johnson don't win you a title.
I haven't watched many nets games this year ill be honest but their biggest problem against the celtics seemed to be them missing wide open shots. Not just Deron Williams but the entire team. I watched Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, and CJ Watson miss 5 consecutive wide open shots with no defense in front of them. Every coach able aspect of the game they seemed to be excelling at especially rebounding and taking charges. I gotta think at that point the blame falls on the players not the team.
This is all based on maybe three actual nets games I've watched this year so take it with a grain of a salt haha I'm sure some team will pick up Avery Johnson in the off season if not as a HC than definitely as an assistant. He'll be back soon enough.
Deron Williams is the worst. Has never won a thing in his life (has he ever gotten out of round one?), hasnt hit a jumper all year, and runs off another coach.

4 trips to the playoffs in Utah, went so far as the Western Conference Finals once (loss to San Antonio the year they went on to beat LeBron's Cavs).
Firing Johnson now is sort of screwed up considering he coached this team for 2 years while they gutted the team in hopes of getting LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony or Dwight Howard. However, this year the team should be better, but as we've seen with the Heat and Lakers assembling talented players takes time.
I understand the Lakers making a move since they had better options, but this makes no sense to me. Lol at "gauging interest " from Phil Jackson. Who could they get that would be an upgrade and be willing to coach that team?
