CBB Weekly Thoughts [2/25-3/3]

I hate watching Villanova almost as much as I hate watching Pitt. Wright is more tolerable than Dixon, but thats about it. Every Villanova game is the same...Villanova grabbing guys on defense, hand-checking, jersey pulling, etc. Sometimes they get called for it, sometimes they don't. On offense, Villanova is a mess. No structure or philosophy, just a bunch of guys traveling and throwing themselves into defenders trying to draw contact. Thats why they can beat Marquette but lose to Seton Hall...they are completely dependent on the refs bailing them out at both ends of the floor.

I don't get it, you hate play without structure (NOVA) and play based solely on structure (PITT).

This year tournament is going to be crazy, because there really aren't any great teams.

The crazy thing about Georgetown, is I would take any of those recent Chris Wright/Hollis Thompson/Henry Sims/Greg Monroe/Austin Freeman teams that got bounced early in the tournament the last 4 or 5 years over this years team in a heartbeat. This is the thinnest Hoya team in years, they cant score, and they lost their second best player (Greg Wittington) to academics. But thanks to Otto Porter and the best defense ive seen since Mourning/Mutombo, they havent lost since Whittington was declared ineligible. Its a weird team.

It's just an extremely weak period for CBB, would teams like this year's Pitt, ND, Marquette, Cuse, Georgetown even get 8 wins in the 2009 BE? Probably not.

Right now? I'd go.. Indiana (top overall), Gonzaga, Duke and Michigan.

I don't like the idea of making Gonzaga a #1. I really don't know what it is, but if I saw them as a #1 seed I'd cringe a bit.

I've seen GU play a few times and I have never been impressed by them, but the same could be said for every team that I've seen this year.
