SWEEP. The first Big East champs, and the last.

Eat a dick, Boeheim. Enjoy those hot rivalries with Wake Forest & Georgia Tech

    61-39

"On Feb. 12, 1980, one of college basketball’s greatest rivalries was born. That night, Georgetown mounted a furious comeback on the road to upset second-ranked Syracuse, who came into the game riding a 57-game home winning streak, 52-50, in the last contest ever played at Manley Field House. Afterward John Thompson, ever the shit-stirrer, proclaimed: “Manley Field House is officially closed.” (After an underdog Georgetown team beat Syracuse last month, in their last meeting in the Carrier Dome before Syracuse joins the ACC, Thompson’s son, John Thompson III, now the Hoyas’ coach, told reporters they wouldn’t get a similar line out of him.)"

Those were the days. Big East Basketball - the rivalries, the players, the coaches, the 1985 Final Four. Thompson, Boeheim, Looie, Rollie, P.J., Calhoun, Ewing, Mullin, Jackson, Seikaly, Pearl Washington, Sleepy Floyd, Walter Berry, etc., etc. That was THE conference.

Hate all this fucking change with these conferences. But at least they keep the Big East name, they still have the Garden, and getting a quality program like Butler is huge.

John Thompson (the elder) after the game today:

"We got the Big East name, and we got the Garden. That's all we need."

Hoping for a repeat of the last time Georgetown had the Regular Season Championship:

Take that shit to an ACC thread, go talk about NC State or Yellow Jackets or some other hokey bullshit, we are celebrating The Big East and BASKETBALL, and the embarrassment of Syracuse.

Yeah, but enough was enough with these football assholes.

I'm sure if UConn drops the delusions of gridiron grandeur and accepts their place as a hoops institution, they would be welcomed with open arms to come home. But until then, fuck 'em.

Why UConn even has a football program is beyond me, same with Cincinnati.

Marquette gets a share of the title as well.

If not for Fred Brown suffering brainlock, John Thompson would've had two titles. As for the 'Nova game, hey, when a team shoots 79% from the court, you just shake their hand and say it was their magical night. Still, it's amazing what Georgtown did during the Ewing years. They put the Big East on the map.

All this conference shuffling shows you how these schools feel about 'tradition'. It has been and always will be the bottom line.

As a CT residence and fan, I really wish Uconn would just give up on football and join the new big east. A lot more exciting watching them play bball than football.

Otto Porter wins BEPOTY, JT3 wins BECOTY.

Let's win the Big East tournament and sweep EVERYTHING as we send Cuse to the ACC to start that soon to be riveting rivalry with Clemson.

Sad that the DePaul-USF rivalry is gone now.

                          GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.
