Former Bull Scottie Pippen was involved in a fight outside of a tony Malibu sushi restaurant over the weekend that sent a man to the hospital, officials said.
Pippen had been at the Nobu Malibu restaurant on the Pacific Coast Highway when a fight broke out between him and the man around 6:30 p.m., said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County sheriff's office.
Witnesses told police that Pippen got into an argument with the man in the parking lot of the restaurant near a valet stand, Whitmore said.
"That argument led to an altercation," Whitmore said. "Our detectives are investigating this right now."
Pippen left the restaurant after the fight, Whitmore said. The other person was taken to a hospital, Whitmore said. He did not know the man's age or condition.
"Charges could follow, we don't know," he said. "We have to investigate and check with all the witnesses and find out exactly what happened."
Employees at the restaurant said they did not have any information about the fight.
Chicago Bulls officials said it would be premature to comment on the incident. Pippen serves as special advisor to Bulls' president and chief operating officer Michael Reinsdorf.
Further rumor...not official news...
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tells us ... Pippen has since been named as a suspect in a report for assault with a deadly weapon -- the deadly weapon being his shoes. We're told Pippen repeatedly kicked the 50-something-year-old victim when he was down.
As one source put it, "He beat the f*** out of him."
According to witnesses, the fight started after the alleged victim approached Pippen for an autograph. We're told Pippen said no, and something happened to set off the fight.
A family member of the alleged victim tells us, he was released from the hospital this morning with broken teeth, a swollen mouth, as well as back and head injuries.
Pippen's attorney had no comment.
