Brooklyn & Boston Blockbuster Trade Close to a Reality

New thread....According to Wojo and Marc Stein, here are the details:

    - Formal trade cannot be finalized until July 10 (b/c of Pierce's option), but teams are working to get a deal in principle agreed to this evening

    - The deal has been presented to Kevin Garnett and he must waive his no-trade clause

    Brooklyn Nets Would Receive:

    -PF Kevin Garnett (2 years remaining @ $11.5M & $12M)
-SF Paul Pierce (expiring @ $15M option)
-SG Jason Terry (2 years remaining @ $5M per)

    Boston Celtics Would Receive:

    -PF Kris Humphries (expiring contract)
-SF Gerald Wallace (3 years remaining @ $10.1M per)
-PF Reggie Evans (2 years remaining @ $1.7M per)
-F Tornike Shengalia (expiring, under a million dollars)
-G Keith Bogans (Nets would do a sign & trade)
-First Round Picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018

As long as those 2016 and 2018 picks aren't protected I'm fine with the deal I guess.

I'm not sure we can call this a blockbuster trade. Just a huge heap of players trade.

Im shocked at what LA and Brooklyn are seemingly willing to give up for Garnett at this age.

They are basically willing to give up a few picks late in the first round 3-5 years from now.

In the NBA, that is basically giving someone away for free.

Sure the Nets will be good, but 3 first round picks for a bunch of old meat is pretty good.

Yeah I'm not sure what the huge haul Boston is getting here... that Wallace deal is godawful.

People act like KG was a total stiff last year and I don't know why.. go back and look at the numbers.

Noone has ever called KG a stiff, ever. That would be outright silly.

I still dont get wanting to send multiple first round picks for the old man tho.

There is so much quality late in drafts now, teams should value their first round picks more than this, even good teams. This is far from a free price.

I guess it's win now mode to the max. Whomever is the brains behind this is not worried about 3 or more years down the road, they want to make a run now. So, 2 more years of old KG > mid-late 1st rounders in '14, '16 and '18.

KG is old, but he's a great...he's altered his game. He's now a grunt power forward. He's got 2-3 years left in the tank, and the way he plays his game now, he'll be able to maintain a bit. The Nets need a good grunt at the 4. Imagine how much more effective Brook-lyn Lopez can be with a legitimate paint presence next to him. And Pierce is a definite upgrade to Wallace.

A starting five of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Brook Lopez is pretty damn good...you just have a two year window. They are looking to trade MarShon Brooks. Jason Terry can come in and replace his minutes. They do need to put together a bench. All they'll have is Terry, Mirza Teletovic, Tyshawn Taylor, MAYBE CJ Watson (player option for 1M) and whoever they draft with #22 and whatever pick they get for MarShon Brooks.

Those late first rounders have quality, but those late first rounders also are more expensive for teams that will play in the luxury tax area...which the Nets will do with regularity.

Rondo can't be happy with this.

So the Nets are basically the 2012-2013 Lakers?
