USF set to hire Orlando Antigua. Press conference will be tomorrow. Antigua will stay on with Kentucky through Final Four run. I am very happ with the hire. He is the guy I wanted, so blessing in disguise that Masiello deal fell through.

I look forward to renewing my strong connections in the state of Florida and can’t wait to begin working towards our future success.”

Based on what he’s done with the Dominican Republic National Team as their head coach and his work with our family over the last five years at Kentucky and one season at Memphis, I have the utmost confidence in him to lead this program to new heights. My guess is they will do things that have never been done before at South Florida. We’re all going to miss him and his family after we finish this run.”

Great recruiter, has experience coaching a national team. This is a great hire, although I expect its a stepping stone for Antigua.

I hear that a lot and it makes a ton of sense. And if it is just a brief stop in his career, my hope is that he will position the program to be one that, in the future, is not considered a stepping stone and is one where people come to lay roots.

USF can be that too. Not right now, but, it can be a very desirable job just based off the area of the country. On top of that, USF is considered one of the top 50 research universities in the US among public and private schools. Annual budget for the university system is over $1 billion and with new facilities on campus and a massive upgrade/renovation to the Sun Dome, it can be a place that can win consistently with the right foundation. Hoping Coach O can bring that.

Also, at Dave Rice. Took over at UNLV, was crowned god for his recruiting abilities. 3 years later, he hasn't won a post-season game and was seriously considering a position at USF.
