Len Bias, The Legend You Know, The Story You Didn't

    Len Bias
    June 19th, 2009.

As a Maryland Terp fan, I must inform everyone of a movie that will be released in a few months.

For those of you who don't know who Len Bias is (only reason I do, is because he went to Maryland). He was suppose to be the next Jordan. Drafted 2nd overall by the Celtics, He was suppose to add youth to the current Larry Bird aging team.

The death of Len Bias, led to years of no championships in Boston. Not to mention years of horrible basketball at Maryland (and in a few years, no basketball at all).

Well, Anywho maybe some of you guys will check it out.

I'll catch it, love to watch movies about sports. I heard stories from my grandpa about Len Bias and what he could of been. Tragic story, but I'm sure it'll be worth the seven dollars.

After his death, the Head Coach of Maryland had players remove Cocaine and other drugs from his room. You can find detailed info on the reasons why Maryland was suspended on Wiki or some other sites, if you want to get into that side of the story.

The NCAA suspended Maryland for 3 to 4 seasons and It wasn't until Greg Williams came back (he is a Maryland Alumni), did Maryland come back to the top.

You have to understand, Marylands main recruiting Rival is Georgetown, since they are practically the closes college.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think before they found out that Bias died from cocaine (by autopsy). The coach had the drugs removed from the room in order to prevent NCAA punishment. Because the NCAA punished schools athletics by taking away scholarships, etc... So if Bias died from a heart attack, thats one thing. But since he went out at 2 a.m. got the drugs, brought them back to his dorm; used them and died on campus. Thats a whole different problem.

Damn, that makes me feel old. I actually saw him play with my own two eyes. He was a beast. It's been argued that his death also set the Celts back 10 years since he was essentially supposed to take over for Bird.

For the same reason a coach would tell players to lie about another player killing a teammate.

Or try and cover up a near fatal car accident like Illinois did with the Jamar Smith accident that nearly killed Brian Carwell.

I started a thread about this on MM over a year ago. Still eagerly awaiting the release, obviously.

Read Heelsox post. Coach K lumped him in with MJ in a group of their own, saying they were the only two players he's ever been stunned by, which to me says something.
