Kevin Love is a good player and deserves more credit for what he did this year. People saying he's average simply never watched a Wolves game. The issue is that he isn't some flashy guard running up and down the court dribbling, dunking and hoisting 3's, so ESPN (and thus most fans) really didn't pay attention to him, but Love is solid and is going to be a really good pro.
Love: I was screwed in ROY voting.

I hear what everyone is saying, but the point i'm saying is he is defentally not one of the best 5 rookies in the league. Sure he got 29 double doubles, good job, but people like Brook Lopez, Marc Gasol, Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Russell Weskbrook, and Eric Gordon still are overall better players right now and have made a bigger impact on their teams than Love. Love really didn't make much of an impact on his team if they still has that crappy record.

Gordons team was killed by injury.
And yes Gasol is overall better than Love and he has a better attitude. Gasol has more blocks, points, assists, and steal per game than Love. He also has a height advantage which will be great for him. He also did have an impact on the Grizzles giving them a ligit rebounding threat. The T-Wolves already have Jefferson.
Really, i have him rated 7th in my top rookie list only 1 spot above Love.

Westbrook's team was in a new city, and having a new start.

On top of that, I would take Love's offense over Marc's. Gasol isn't horrible on offense, but as far as NBA big men go, he's an average post scorer. From what I've seen from Kevin Love, he's got more talent right now and potential than Gasol on offense.
Don't list assists, neither of them averaged a lot of assists nor do a lot of rookie big men.
Gasol is obviously a better defender, but that's all he had over Love.
And why do you keep bringing up records and then making excuses for other players? You're making an excuse for Gordon being on a team full of injured players, Mayo being on a shitty team, Westbrook in a new city (WTF? Just say he was on a shitty team). Kevin Love was on a shitty team as well and it's not his fault that neither him nor Al Jefferson are centers.
I'd take Kevin Love's production on a team with an All-Star caliber big man over Gasol's production on a team with... Darrell Arthur and Hakim Warrick...Comment

And if you knew anything about the Grizzlies you would know that we have no rebounders and Marc Gasol is an average rebounder at best. It's much easier to grab boards on a team with no one else to rebound, than on a team with guys like Al Jefferson and Mike Miller.

Gordon. Gives the Clippers a nice 3 point shooter and a nice threat scoring the ball which takes alot of pressure off Davis.
Westbrook. Without him they really don't have any good point guards. Chucky Atkins is an under average point guard and hes their 2nd option at PG.
Love does impact his team but not as much as other players impact their teams. I still think he didn't make that great of an impact.
Edit: If you read my post thats why i said the team got a legit rebound out of him.Last edited by ATL Jones Bro; 04-24-2009, 05:06 PM.

Anyone who thinks Kevin Love is better than Brook Lopez is crazy, lets just get that clear before anything.
That being said, im not hating on K-Love. Being a top 6-7 rookie in the NBA isnt a bad thing.. their was just better rookies than him this year. IE: Rose, Westbrook, Mayo, Lopez, Gordon, Chalmers, then Love or Augstin.. they're both up there. This was a special draft class for guards, no question.Comment

Maybe if his team won more than 29% of their games he might get some consideration.Comment

Originally posted by mbusereven if i don't necessarily agree with him, the guy deserves some credit. love led the league in offensive rebound rate and was second to D12 in total rebound rate. 4th in the league in offensive boards per game and 9th in the league in boards per game despite just 25 mpg. averages in 51 G after jan 1: 13 pts, 9.7 reb. he had 29 double-doubles, brook lopez had 18, marc gasol had 17. but yeah he sucks

Truth is, if he wasn't in Minnesota, or he was a little more exciting to watch, he probably would've garnered a lot more votes. Don't act like this isn't true.
I am not a huge fan of Love, but even I have to commend the rookie year he had.Comment

It also has to do with where he played, Rose had muuuuuch better exposure being in the Chicago market, that also plays a roleComment

Seriously, there were plenty of rookies better than Kevin. David Lee got 65 double doubles and you dont hear him complainin about not being one of the top 5 big men in the league.
I'll name Love's 5 rookies better than him.
Derrick Rose
Of course the guy is. He was the ROTY and he is a game changer and will be one of the top NBA players in a year or 2.
Russell Westbrook
He was phenominal for the Thunder in their 1st year. I see alot coming out of him.
Brook Lopez
Hes a great scorer on the post, the guy can rebound, and the guy can block. Great big man.
OJ Mayo
He can shoot the 3, get to the hoop, and shoot the mid range jumper. Hes a scorer.
Michael Beasley:
Duel threat player. He plays nice defense. Hes a post threat and can shoot the 3.
Honorable mentions better than Love:
Eric Gordon and Marc Gasol
Derrick Rose has Ben Gordon, John Salmons, Tyrus Thomas, Luol Deng..
Russell Westbrook has Jeff Green and Kevin Durant
Brook Lopez has Vince Carter and Devin Harris
OJ Mayo & Marc Gasol have Mike Conley and Rudy Gay, not to mention they have eachother to make adjusting as a rookie to the NBA easier as they are both starters..
Michael Beasley has D-Wade, Mario Chalmers who can help with adjusting like Mayo & Gasol, and they have Jermaine O'Neal.
Who does Kevin Love have to be honest? Al Jefferson? Playing pretty much the same damn position he plays? Who also went down down the stretch and Kevin Love picked up his game enough to grab a number of double-double games and have a what, 9 game winning streak? I may be overlooking Miller, but he isn't a dynamic game-changer in my mind.
Just looking at the facts here people. Kevin Love plays on a squad that gets barely any exposure, so most of the stuff he does goes un-noticed. He also really doesn't have much on his team, that everyone else has..Warner2BruceTD: wait, that was schwayzed who looks like ryan gosling?

It still doesnt change the fact that he wasnt a top 5 rookie.. lack of exposure doesnt translate into better play.Comment
