Valley Ranch Collapse: 7 injured, 1 critically hurt

Just caught the news flash on The NFL Network:

According to the report, there was a big rainstorm that came in and basically collapsed the "bubble" (looks like a huge tent) that the Dallas Cowboys were holding a Rookie Practice in.

7 players were injured, with 1 gaining serious injuries... right now they are still looking for more people under the collapsed structure.

No players injured, and that's all that matters

      ESPN's update:

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was among at least five people injured Saturday when the roof of the team's practice facility collapsed during a storm.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said four team support staff members were injured and all players and coaches were accounted for. He didn't know the extent of the injuries of the four, who he said were hospitalized.

Assistant coach Brett Maxie suffered a laceration on his leg, a source told ESPN.com's Matt Mosley.

DeCamillis was seen putting on a neck brace and being taken out of the team's main office building on a stretcher.

The roof came down at about 4:30 p.m. ET during a severe thunderstorm while the team was going through the second day of a three-day rookie minicamp. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, in a TV interview from the Kentucky Derby, said 27 rookies were going through the workout.

Witnesses said lights started flickering and shaking minutes before the collapse, prompting players, coaches, staff members and reporters to vacate the building. Several people were trying to exit the facility as the roof came down.

According to the Fort World Star-Telegram, a portable toilet was blown over outside the facility and blocked an exit.

The storm was producing winds measured at 64 mph just before it struck the Cowboys facility, said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Harris in Fort Worth.

A witness on the scene told Mosley that players and coaches raced back into the facility to try and locate people that may have been trapped.

Dalrymple said rescue personnel were still going through the debris to make sure everyone was accounted for.

Irving fire-rescue officials ordered all reporters and team personnel away from the immediate area.

The roof is a large air-supported canopy with aluminum frames covering a regulation 100-yard football field.

Power was out at the Valley Ranch facility.
Matt Mosley is an NFL reporter for ESPN.com. The Associated Press contributed to this story.

CNN's Virgilio Avila is now reporting that 12 people were injured, 3 severely.

One of the three is a lot more serious than the others.

Fire department had a press conference.

They said no one is critical, so that's a plus. DeCamillis hit his head and was taken on a stretcher as a precaution. Maxie got a gash in his leg.

Footage as the facility came down from the inside. Sheer chaos.

edit: Just received word that someone was impaled on something. I had a feeling it was too good to be true that everyone would escape from this without a major injury.

I know they're reporting, but CNN is not there.'

You're better off following WFAA or Dallas Morning News as they had reporters on scene when shit hit the fan.

I'm going to stick with CNN. CNN has talked to multiple people at the scene, and the reporter I was mentioning was live at the scene during the "disaster".

Also any Newcastle United fans will prolly know about their training facility building.

I won't say too much about Summit, just that they've had multiple buildings just fucking fall down. They had one collapse in Philly after it had been up for 50 days among other failures. There was prolly a microburst in the area but that's no reason for this thing to come down if it were engineered and built properly.

Just to clarify, the building isn't just a tent or bubble. If you watch the video you can see steel all over the place. Making an educated guess, that steel is between the fabric where the lights were attached and the roof itself. It's what's referred to as an inner liner. It's just there to cover the steel roofs, but it's not a circus tent or air-filled bubble.

We have numerous buildings in Texas and other tornado/hurricane areas all over the world and we've never had a building fall down. Ever. Thousands of buildings of all various sizes, not one collapse. What will happen is the fabric covering the building may fail due to strong winds (We had a few problems in the Houston area with a few of our buildings after the last hurricane), but the steel will not budge. But again, that's if it's built properly. This place more than likely wasn't. What's even scarier is they have buildings at Texas A&M and the Patriots practice facility. So who knows if this could happen again. Let's hope not...
Thanks for the pitch and mud slinging. When I want a building built, i'll come and talk to yah.

Now on to pressing matters. Good thing no one died.
