Danny Granger named NBA's Most Improved Player

Well deserved.. he's the only bright light on a sinking franchise

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger is the NBA's Most Improved Player, winning the award after averaging a career-best 25.8 points a game this season.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger is the NBA's Most Improved Player, winning the award after averaging a career-best 25.8 points a game this season.

Granger accepted the award Tuesday during a ceremony at Conseco Fieldhouse.

He won the honor after being selected to the All-Star team this year for the first time and improving his scoring average by at least five points in each of the past three seasons. He averaged 7.5 points as a rookie out of New Mexico, then 13.9 in his second season and 19.6 in 2007-08.

Granger had the NBA's fifth-highest scoring average this season.

I bet half of Indianapolis doesn't even know who he is. What a sad state Pacers basketball has become. Hell I couldn't even tell you what their starting 5 was.

I still think he was good enough last year to warrant NOT getting this award.. but I guess the writers disagreed. Thats my dude tho so im proud of him.. his next step is to become an elite defender.

Jason Terry was a former starter, so if he can get the sixth man, Granger can get most improved. It doesn't make sense to me either, but it's the NBA...it's not supposed to.

With all due respect, I hardly think the Pacers are a sinking franchise.

With what is a very un-talented roster imo in comparison to some of the other teams in the league, the Pacers were in the playoff race until the last weeks of the season.

They finished better than teams like the Wizards (two all-stars in Jamison/Butler), Raptors (olympian/all-star bosh), etc.

The Pacers may have only matched their record from a season ago but are in the right direction. Rush showed signs of brilliance after a very rough start in the NBA.

One thing that is going to suck is the issue with Dunleavy's knee. Not to mention all the bullshit still surrounding Jamaal Tinsley.

First NBA player to raise his scoring average at least 5 points a game in 3 consective seasons. 7.5 >13.9 > 19.6 > 25.8

Recorded career highs in a long list of stats.

What's really funny is, he is now 2nd all-time behind Reggie Miller in franchise history for 3 pointers made. He's made 493 pointers in his first 4 seasons. Reggie knocked down 419 in first 4. Reggie is also the all-time leader.

Coming out of college I didn't expect Granger to become a 25ppg scorer....Now, ideally IMO he isn't the type of guy you build a franchise around, but if he is your best option there could be a lot worse.

Damn the Raptors too.. my most bitter moment in Raptors history (outside of that MORONIC Chris Childs shot in the 1st round of the playoffs). We were locked into him all pre-draft and then we ended up taking fucking Joey Graham. 2nd worst moment of my Raptors life.

I was going to be biased (no pun intended) and say Rondo made more of a jump to stardom since Granger was already labeled as someone who was going to be elite in pre-season, but I guess I can't really argue with the production.

Could be worse. Your team could've selected Darko right after Lebron. Or take Kwame with the 1st overall.

Im surprised that Al Thornton wasnt even considered to be MIP. He keeps getting snubbed. He was 2nd in scoring among sophomores this season improving by almost 5 ppg and he doesnt even get reconized at all?

                              1984 Record: 44-38 (9th in west)
                              1985 Record: 42-40 (7th in west; 1st round exit)
1986 Record: 51-31 (3rd in west; swept in finals)

The Grizzlies theme this season should be : "This Season, We're Doing It For The Lulz"
