And if Payton had a an offensive line for the first 90% of his career and had a 4,000 yard passer and pro bowl WR's Sanders never would have sniffed the record....

LOL at looking only at rushing too. Nevermind Payton was perhaps one of the best all around football players ever post two-way player era.

That's a common misconception that Barry had no offensive line. We actually had plenty of pro-bowl caliber linemen during his era. The only reason we looked so bad was because most of his highlights came off broken plays... but on a lot of his long runs, he was never touched (and not just because he's Barry Sanders).

Not taking anything away from the guy, just sayin'. Carry on

I knew the Chicago wagon was going to pull up, anytime you dog on Payton there are three or four that come out of the woodwork and call foul. There is no doubt he's one of the greatest to ever play the game, I'm not denying that. I'm saying, based on my opinion of what I would want on MY team. I've got no room for Payton. God forbid what would've happened if I put Emmit Smith.

I mean look at my list again...

Does he really need to be on there? No.

I just have a soft spot for the People's Champ.

Not our problem your "dogging" on Payton is illogical.

Walter Payton did EVERYTHING very well. Run with power, run with speed, block, catch the ball. He would be on my greatest team.....And, as a Packer fan, I HATE the bears.

I think Barry was great, but Walter didn't have great lines to run behind and he excelled at every aspect of the position. God, I hated him, until after he retired. You know the guy is great when your heated/hated rival fans start to like him. I'm pissed at him for making me like a Chicago Bear. But how could anyone not love Walter Payton.

To me, Jim Brown and Walter are 1a and 1b.

Scary thing is Payton was also a pretty good passer for a RB and people always said he was maybe the best punter on the team during his time there(at least leg strength wise).

Don't forget he lead the NFL in Kick Return Avg one season as well.

LOL at the OP picking Joe Namath to be his quarterback. You'd better be running the ball all day long on that team.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather have Sammy Baugh or Sid Luckman than Joe Namath

I suppose Namath could guarantee a win then hand the ball off 70 times. That might work?
