His nickname was "Candlelight" lol - just the slightest blow would knock him out.

That's what happens when the debate prior to the '98 draft was over Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. Bill Polian knew Manning was a winner when Peyton told him "Look, I'd like to play here for you, but, if you don't draft me, everytime you play against me I am going to kick your ass."

Polian said he knew Peyton was a winner after that comment and there was no doubt who they would draft.

When you take a QB that high and he bombs out, it fucks up your franchise for years. Fortunately for SD, they recovered and got a real QB in Rivers.

Your are absolutely correct. You can not get it wrong at the quarterback position.

Big Ben has two rings...Eli has one...Rivers has a chance to win one....Ryan & Flacco were solid in their rookie seasons....the book is still out on Vince Young....can Sanchez win the Jets starting job? It's such a crap shoot with young QBs, man. Funny thing is, I was furious that the Giants traded to draft Eli. I wanted them to keep the pick and draft Robert Gallery(our o-line was shit at that time) or Big Ben. So much for my theory.

The dude that really fascinates me is Tim Tebow. Can he do it at the next level?

The weird thing with that debate is that not only did Peyton Manning play at a major school and excel against SEC defenses, he was also really good for his entire college career. Ryan Leaf played at Washington State, went up against PAC 10 defenses, and IIRC was ok his junior year but broke out his senior year.

To me, Manning was the better and safer choice.

Colts drafted Steve Emtman and Quentin Coryatt 1 and 2 overall in the same draft.

                  Dave FTW.
