    Gruden visiting Saints camp...

Jon Gruden is spending some time at New Orleans Saints training camp. It's a two-fold visit for Gruden. He is scouting for his new gig on MNF and he is meeting with the Saints quarterbacks at the request of Sean Payton. Gruden was also sitting in on the quarterbacks meetings too.

I can guarantee Gruden will only be in the booth for a year. The guy just loves coaching. He is already renting office space in Tampa to watch film. He invites coaches from the area and around the country to watch and share ideas with him. He still gets up every morning at 3:17a, but he keeps shorter hours. He usually leaves his office by around 12 or 1 and goes to play golf with friend Bruce Allen at Avila Country Club.

EDIT: Can a mod change the title to "GRUDEN" instead of GUDEN? Thanks!

Gruden was great on Total Access for the Draft. Even if it's just a year in the booth I look forward to it.

Oh I believe that. What team would be a good fit for him?

Gruden needs to go to a team with 2 things...#1 a lot of young potential talent on Defense and #2 a team that already has a franchise QB

        .....Bengals?

          I can see that meeting..

Gruden: I don't care if there are eight of you guys on the depth chart.. I'd keep all of you.

I think any team is a good fit. The constant changing of personnel really allows any coach to go into any situation. However, Jon would want his own quarterback. Either via draft or trade. Jon is high-profile though. I would venture to say that Dallas or Washington would be interested if Phillips or Zorn were shown the door.

Other possible coaching spots for 2010:

              Cincinnati
              San Diego
              Denver
              Jacksonville

I would love to see Gruden go to San Diego or Washington though..
I don't think McDaniels will be fired after 1 season...that would be some crazy shit.

I wouldn't necessarily say Gruden is a sure thing to coach in 2010.. he could be like Cowher and wait for the right job to open up.

Tampa Bay should never have fired Jon Gruden.
I realize young, hip black coaches are the in thing right now, but Gruden was a proven entity.

(Sorry the political incorrectness, but Raheem Morris has absolutely nothing on Jon Gruden)

You should have just left it at young and left out the race part. I mean Josh McDaniels and Sean Peyton got jobs too I don't think it's just because he was black.

And while I get your overall sentiment, and agree that Gruden is superior to Morris, I think the decision to fire Chucky and the decision to hire Raheem were made independent of each other.

You're probably right, but everyone thinks they're hiring the next Mike Tomlin now.
And, I'm sorry, but race had a bit of a factor in that hire - even Rooney said as much.

Comparing Morris to McDaniels/Payton not fair anyway. McDaniels/Payton both proven co-ordinators, Morris was a defensive backs coach who was just promoted to co-ordinator before Tampa thought it would be cool to make him the coach.

What, exactly, did Morris do to prove he was capable of being an NFL head coach?

Let's put it another way - how would blacks feel if some wet behind the ears white defensive backs coach was hired to be a head coach over a proven, Super Bowl level co-ordinator like Tony Dungy? Justifiably pissed off.

Don't be so sure. Gruden had lunch with the Glazers the day before he was fired and all they talked about was plans for the upcoming season. Gruden and Bruce Allen were still in their offices working on the evening they were fired. Two days later, Sunshine was hired and so was Dominik.

And he will most likely "visit" others as well, getting ready for the big "start of season TV show." His next stop will prob be Oakland. I understand they have 6 QBs on their roster at last viewing.
