Titans work on Option during practice

It wasnt a huge part of practice but the Titans worked for about 10 minutes today with VY at quarterback running the option. They were rusty, Chris Johnson dropped pitches. Lendale looked more comfortable with it.

Could this type of offense be effective in small spurts in the NFL? I know a ton of teams have Wildcat type packages, but would a NCAA style option be effective?

I think the reason NFL teams never ran this is because the defenses are faster and would contain it in the NFL. I dont know that the titans will even use this during the season but they are working on it in practice.

Ask Lou Holtz, who found out the hard way that the veer option is a bad idea in pro football. Other teams have toyed with this in the past, I think the last I remember was the Cowboys with Quincy Carter in a preseason game.

I doubt it would work, but the "read-option" that VY ran in college was used with some success when Vick was on the Falcons. But a traditional option with a pitch man will get eaten alive by pursuit.

Damn you really hate the titans if you are talking about former titans who now play for the broncos not looking good ;)

Collins and the first team offense moved the ball.

VY threw one pick and one INT, the pick was horrendous. Maybe it was a miscommunication between him and the receiver, either way it was a terrible throw. The touchdown to Paul Williams was nice though for sure. Mone the thing titans fans want is a positive TD/INT ratio. 1:1 will never get you fans around here.

          Ramsey didnt do much.

Chris Mortensen's son threw a pick six.

I shouldve clarified but it was the read option.

Wow, now I see why your articles are works of fiction. You are obviously suffering from dementia. What was your opinion of Steve McNair's performance in that game?

When the read-option worked for Vick, it was because he used his speed to get outside. Vince Young does not have "Vick" speed...he got killed when the Titans ran the read-option against the Bills.

I don't think it was a busted play...I thought it was the read-option. Hard to tell with Vince, though. Like the INT he threw...it looked like Vince wanted to run, then he changed his mind and heaved the ball to no one in particular.

Its easy to miss your ball sack...its half the size of a normal ball sack.

Well i guess if they're gonna experiment with college plays and schemes, the preseason's the time to do it.

I personally would love it if a team ran the option frequently in the NFL, but like others have said already, the defenses are too fast and they collapse, contain the play too fast for it to even get started.

                              Oh well.
