It seems like fullbacks just block now a days, but this guy can actually run the ball. So why aren't there more guys that can run and block, like this guy.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbGqRDDqbB8"]This is why[/ame]
they're a rare breed to come by. Usually, bigger guys with a run first style are pretty bad at blocking, and the regular blocking guys are pretty bad at running. You just don't usually get the full package like McClain.
Well let's have a quick fact check. His first name is Le'Ron, and that's the greatest name ever. Secondly, he went to Alabama. You are a beast if you go to Alabama.
"From the time he hits the court, he plays at a competitive level that you rarely see," Popovich says. "He does the exact same things that Kobe (Bryant) does, that Michael Jordan did.
Peyton Hillis is amazing, makes us white people proud when he breaks 3 tackles for a 1st down
FB's are eventually going to phase out of football, my highschool stopped carrying more than 1 fullback last year since they don't play that much. It's a shame too, the fullback is basiclly a jack of all trades position.
i still think its important to have a blocking FB on the roster
look at teams with good running games las year
Baltimore, New York Giants, Titans
All have big FB that block. Madison Hedgecock is the best blocking FB in the game, Loreno Neal isnt far behind and Ahmard Hall is the 2nd best young FB in th game behind McClain
I wouldnt expect to see McClain run that much this year anyway. He will get goaline carries and short yardage. I expect this out of Baltimore running game this year
There is no other FB in the league like McClain. Your either a runner of blocker. and IMO hillis isnt a FB, that guy is a lfat out beast of a runningback.
Stanley Havili says fullbacks arent goin anywhere, hes about as complete as a fullback gets
For sure. SC ftw!
Moving right along, the thing is that what we consider a halfback now used to be a fullback. Look at Larry Csonka (sp?) and Jim Brown. They were power runningbacks and so played fullback. The lightweights played halfback. New schemes were invented and it all went to hell.
The old fullback became Brandon Jacobs, LenDale White. The new fullback is the old blocking back. With, of course, a few exceptions like Greg Jones, Peyton Hillis, Le'Ron McClain, and - for a while - Zack Crockett.
homerism here, but a guy most people don't even know, eagles' fullback Leonard "Dream" Weaver.
Weaver won't be getting a huge number of touches but he's a great blocker and people are saying he's gonna be the most vocal leader for the Eagles' offense.
