Garcia should not have even been the starter the last year he was here. I do miss seeing his lovely bride, Carmella............
But Gruden is a "used" QB coach, IMO....he lacks the "whatever-it-takes" in a coach to take the time and teach a kid, thus JJ, who I believe can be a starter, eventually, if not here, somewere. Gruden is where he belongs, in the booth, and does a terrific job at it. Garcia's not a starter just like Gruden is not a "starter coach" this year....not sure why, lol. Gruden doesn't want to "build" he wants to take somebody else's work, Tony comes to mind, and enjoy the fruits of their labor without giving he/she credit for anything that I can recall, another reason JJ would not have gotten a chance at starting for the Bucs. There are very few retreaded QBs that should be starters, i.e., Leftwich. Morris almost chose him, then sanity by other coaches, I'm sure, and due to the performance of McCown, Freeman and JJ, saved him from making the same Gruden mistake...choose the retread QB b/c of ego and a lack of patience by a coach.

I just don't see the apathy towards the situation that you do......maybe I should check one of the so-called experts in the radio studio. [Said with tongue-in-cheek].

Love ya, Leaf, just got to get you back onboard the train!

Freeman for starting.....he can handle the job!!! Lol, Leaf reacting to that :pom: j/k Leaf.

The Super Bowl team had 22 new players on it and Dungy only drafted Barber. Brooks, Sapp and Lynch were all drafted by Sam Wyche. I guess one could argue that Gruden and Dungy won with the cornerstones at defense that Wyche provided them.

When it comes down to picking the starter, who is gonna be cut? It won't be Freeman, and I'm pretty sure it won't be Leftwich. Which leaves McCown and Johnson. Johnson somehow seems the odd man out.

Leftwich is not invisible here. Everyone seems to think so though. Leftwich can be cut. He has no guaranteed money in his contract. Meaning, unless he's on the roster week 1 (vested veteran) his full seasons salary is not guaranteed.

Luke is the guy that Mark Dominik gave a bunch of money to...plus, he has outplayed Leftwich in the preseason by leaps and bounds. Not sure why they want another week. If anything, it is to try and justify starting Freeman. Other than that, the numbers are pretty cut and dry with McCown outperforming Leftwich.

I hope Leftwich wins the job. I hate mclown. I'm still on the fence on freeman. I think we could have gotten a better play at the pick than we did and there is way better QB class next year.
Really not discounting Gruden as a "head coach," and if I conveyed that idea, it is not a correct assumption in that I believe he could be a "head coach" at many teams. However, personally, from what former players have said and my observations, the man has not patience working with younger kids, as I said earlier. To me, this in no way disqualifies him as being a "head coach," although some owners might do simply because of the lack of that skill. IMO. He's one of the best at offensive play-calling, although his complicated and scheme is sometimes over-done. As I said, just my opinion.

As Leaf says below, Lefty is not invisible. But neither is McCown. And yes, JJ at the right trade value for a needed body or two, which we need, could happen.

Your "cut" assessment on the two has a lot of meaning in the whole scheme of things, and is right on.

I do think both are pretty well even at this point. Up until Saturday night, it pretty much was Lefty’s job to lose, but McCown throwing those two TD passes in that game against the Jaguars got him back in the mix. But McCown had very good field positions on each.

Although the team only got a FG, Lefty had much tougher field positions and did, in fact, move the team down the field, the drives eventually stalling.

I don’t think, at this point, that the coaches are seriously thinking about starting Freeman, unless the two front runners falter, or JJ…just they are NOW considering keeping all four! I believe that they want to see a clear separation of Luke and Lefty, b/c the one losing out could be on the bus out of town if a good trade were to happen.

              According to Bucs.com,
Morris met with Leftwich and McCown together at 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning and told them the decision would not be made until after Thursday's game against the Miami Dolphins, in which both men would play for a quarter and a half.
With Free and JJ getting basically the rest of a 3rd pre-season game lends me to think that they are definitely thinking about keeping all four unless some team should need a QB and make a offer that is beneficial.

Its pre season give the ball to Leftwich. He's our best option IMO
I think we have a ton of talented RB's I mean I know Ward and Graham are going to get the load but Caddy if healthy is good and Clifton Smith is lookin real good so is Kareem Huggins.

Also who is gonna step up as our #2 WR? I dont trust clayton. and how is my boy sammie doing? He has looked good in the games does he have a chance at the #3 WR? Up here in oregon i dont get all the news so sad
I’m with you on the #2 WR. As stated earlier in this thread, Clayton has not shown me much since his rookie season. He has sparks at times, but is not consistent. I think Brian Clark gets the starting nod over Clayton and Sammie goes in at #3 WR playing the slot.

FYI - BUCS-DOLPHINS GAME WILL NOT BE BLACKED OUT IN BAY AREA
Although there still are a limited number of tickets available for Tampa Bay's preseason home opener vs. the Miami Dolphins, Thursday night's contest at Raymond James Stadium will not be blacked out locally, the Buccaneers told the media Monday.
