Vick will return Week 3 now

"Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will be eligible to play in Week Three against the Kansas City Chiefs at home on Sept. 27, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said today in New York.

Goodell met with Eagles coach Andy Reid and Vick this morning for 50 minutes at the hotel where the eagles were staying in Newark. Goodell then talked to Vick advisor Tony Dungy for 45 minutes.

"He's demonstrating he's committed," Goodell said. "We're looking for a success story. At the end of the day it's a gut check."

Vick has done two appearances for the Humane Society. Goodell said, and expects Vick to do public service appearances in Philadelphia in the next 30 days.

According to Goodell, Vick has shown "genuine remorse," and has taken responsibility and been accountable. "That's a significant step," Goodell said."
interesting to see what the eagles will do now

So, what's the point of holding him out the first two weeks?

Because Goodell doesn't want to look like a bigger pussy than he already is with this...

Seriously, Week 6 would have been fine but Goodell's only doing this to appease the Player's Union and to sell more tickets.

I don't think he should have been suspended at all, the dude did his time.

What would holding him out until Week 6 do? Would 6 weeks make him realize dog fighting really is bad? He missed two years, he served his punishment, and extra two weeks isn't going to do anything else.

I could drop the excuse of "he's not ready... he can't possibly get back to where he was athletically before he went to prison..." but I won't.

Goodell needs to stick with original fines and punishments if he'll ever be taken seriously... now he's just flaking out.

I didn't think a suspension was necessary in the first place. The guy lost $130 million in endorsements, filed for bankruptcy and spend two years in jail. He served his time.. The suspension just seemed excessive to me.

he is making sure they understand who is in charge of the league. The fact is ,he is a better league president than the idiot that heads the baseball league.

Look ,its cool Vick gets to come back. But he will not be anything more than the most famous well paid bench player in the history of football. In his prime he was worth a highlight film but couldnt lead a team consistantly. He was too busy thinking about post game fun. he has been in jail and gets money for nothing now. Talk about lucky-

His general inability to make quick reads and smart decisions probably didn't help him alot either . Just sayin'

And the Eagles are planning to use him for 9-12 snaps per game . So he is a little bit more than just a backup qb bum who never gets in

9 to 12 snaps still means very secondary to the whole plan. and the only reason he gets a job is because of a fad offense that will not last. if he is lucky he can be like Sorgi on a decent team and sit on his butt collecting a couple million.

and when games are tight or Eagles are behind, he will get less time / plays.

he is still one lucky dude

Fad offense that dominated last year, and has dominated in college for years? Buddy the spread/single wing offenses are finally being brought to the biggest stage of them all. They have been successful on every level, and I promise you it will be the same in the NFL.
