The sacred cow, Byron Leftwich, finally benched

Leftwich didn't beat out McCown for the starting job in preseason...Raheem just had a hard-on for Leftwich. Now, he comes out today, claims he reviewed the tape and says that Leftwich will not start next week at Washington.

Instead, Josh Johnson will start for the Bucs. Freeman will be the backup and Leftwich is going to be the #3 quarterback. Johnson will definitely add a new dynamic to the offense. Johnson deserves the opportunity to start and show Morris that he is more than a backup. I think you will see a much better offensive rhythm with Johnson under center. It's about the only thing to look forward to when looking at this game.

Maybe the "career backup" Josh Johnson can make Morris look silly...not that that is hard. I expect Johnson to play well and continue to play well and basically show Morris that he is more than a backup.

Yeah...hence the sarcasm with the title of sacred cow. Not sure what Raheem was thinking when he wanted Byron as the starter. He did his damndest to fix the quarterback competition between him and McCown.

The competition may not have been D1, but, the kid is a very smart football player. He was one of the few who excelled in learning Gruden's offense quickly. He may have been the starter had Gruden not been fucked over.

Is it possible Morris said what he said about Johnson to try and motivate him?

Absolutely not. I would consider this if it were another coach who has used motivational tactics like this, but, Raheem was asked about his comments again this morning and he was trying to backpedal like a motherfucker. You should be able to watch the presser on buccaneers.com if you want. I can't describe it other than there were some rolls of the eyes by some local media members after the presser.

Plus, if that was the case, he would not have drafted Josh Freeman. The same Josh Freeman he said he would take over Stafford and Sanchez. Morris continues to stick his foot in his mouth and is actually showing that he really is not ready to be a head coach.

Here's the video of the press conference, someone asks him about Josh Johnson being his Jason Garrett at the 7:30 mark.
