    After the Fact: LaGarrette Blount

I loved the opinions we got last time about this, so I was wondering... Now that it's a few weeks after the fact, do you agree or disagree with the punishment extended to Oregon Duck's Running Back LaGarrette Blount?

For those of you who didn't see the video of the punch, here it is. And get out from under your rock.

They are talking about letting him come back early as long as he follows some program. Just saw it on ESPN, which, I'm guessing, was the root of you making this thread.

I dunno. It was wrong what he did and he deserves a punishment but a whole season.... come on.

Beneficiary of Blount? Freshman LaMichael James:

Last two games vs two solid schools (Utah/Cal):
        48 carries, 270 yards, 5.6 average

Blount should be back in a backup role with James leading the way. Blount is the better player at this point, but I don't know if you can just throw him back into the starting lineup. Make him earn his way back.

He is having to earn his way back. There's still no set date for when he'll be allowed to return. They told him if he does what they ask of him, they'll let him back.

He needed to be suspended indefinitely after that game IMO. You can't lose your composure in that manner and expect a light punishment. I'm sure his history with the team was also taken into account with his suspension.

I don't mind the coaching staff allowing him to get back on the team as long as he earns it.

agreed. If not for the media whore that is ESPN this season long suspension would not have happened. They treated this story like it was the space shuttle explosion.

              I hope he gets reinstated

The kid has had discipline problems before, and he didnt just punch the opposing player, he went after fans.

He kept his scholarship, & he's still getting his education. He dosen't belong on the football field. He's lucky they let him stay in school.

he doesnt belong on the football field, but mike vick does.....there is a long line of troubled athletes who have done far worse and still play sports. The kid fucked up and this season long suspension is only hurting his future earnings

not to mention, his teams just lost a huge game in which they played their asses off, then some dickhead from BS decides to taunt him.....so he decked him. Which happens all the time on the field. His antics during this event are not ok by any means, but he should be allowed to goto anger management and have a chance to play this year.

If they go back on their punishment and let this kid play again, what message does that send to future trouble makers on the team?

"Yeah, I might get in trouble for a bit...but don't worry, they'll let me back on."

Stick to your original assessment...no flip flopping!

When he started attacking fans he went over the line. So I agree with the first part disagree with the second.

For a guy like Blount it's pretty obvious he values a shot at the NFL over whatever he's majoring in. If he's making a real effort to correct his mistake (he is) why not give him another chance to reach his goal? Big time college football isn't about getting an education.

Sidenote - It's weird how Dungy has become the go-to guy in these situations.

Sidenote II - Whats the odds this move was done because (after beating Cal) Oregon realizes they have a shot at the Pac 10 title?

As I said when the incident happened Blount didn't deserve a season's long suspension (I believe I said a half season). Its good to see Kelly realize that trying to play into to a bunch of overreacting media, boosters and fans he overreacted. I've always liked the idea of letting the kid earn his way back on the team, as this is the way it should have been handled from the beginning.

dungy is like the good al sharpton..he is aiding all the black players that screw up. why hasn't he contacted or tried to help out matt jones huh???

blount should be reinstated if he meets the standards that they have given him.

i don't think any of the players got suspended for the entire year when miami and florida atlantic got in that huge brawl a few years ago. yeah they didn't go after any fans like blount did, but i don't think he should be suspended for the year because he did go after the fans. he also was held back so he didn't do anything to the fans.

i don't believe you can punish someone that severely for an action they really didn't commit but were going to commit in this situation. just a personal opinion of mine.

I still disagree. I would've suspended him indefinitely, until I thought he had earned his way back onto the field.
