Week 5 thoughts... too late for significance edition.

    Ive lost that loving feeling...............

    * I have absolutely no idea how anyone plays defense in the NFL.
Damn near everything I was taught on how to tackle , how every player is still being taught to tackle..is illegal in the NFL.
A dallas safety executes a TEXTBOOK *post rule change* tackle on a WR...and STILL gets flagged..why ?....despite leading with his shoulder into the WRs chest the WRs face mask makes contact with the shoulder due to the impact of the hit...not his face mask strikes..or is struck...I mean "touches" the shoulder pad.

I saw no less than 3 CBS get flagged for PI for attempting to remove a stiff arm from a WR. Not pushing the WR...for trying to fight off the stiff arm the WR has on them.

Im sorry but I just will refuse to give guys like Brady Manning etc full credit for playing in this era. Its too easy. It boggles my mind that guys arent all having 4-5 td games. Its easy to see why rookie QBs the last few years are doing so well.

*This isnt the National Faggot League. Enough with the fuckin pink , and enough with the ugly as fuck uniforms every year every season. Im tired of guessing who the fuck Im watching becuase of these ugly as shit unis.
NFL is so fuckin grubby for sales that its willing to let there players dress up like clowns in ballerina colors to sell more shit.
Fuck Tagliabue and his decision to focus on a marketing minded Commish to replace him.

    * Thank you MNF for telling me and showing me 100x that a singer who wouldnt know a football from his elbow is now partial owner of the Dolphins. Im sure his Salsa music will help his team win as much as JayZs mic skills helped the Nets during there championship run.

    * What ever happened to neck rolls , Thigh pads , knee pads , Hip pads ?
If you dont think the NFL has become less physical take a good look at how many guys arent wearing collision protection.

As for the games...who cares...Im annoyed. People more interested in there Fantasy Football squads than the pathetic state of officiating.

Thank you to Owen Shmitt for reminding me that theres still some balls to the wall crazy mother fuckers playing football.....just wait for the game to start next time.

+1 to everything here. Seriously, the NFL is becoming a ballerina league, and when I see Peyton Manning take a blind side helmet first shot the way Montana did his entire career, AND see his receivers go up and get a helmet in their chest and their lower back the way Rice and Clark did their whole careers, I'll put him in the GOAT conversation.

Agree 1000%! Yes 1000% Everyond hypes up Brady for his stats and what not, but that douche cant be touched without getting a flag on the other team. Goddell and this pussy rules piss me off. Granted I like seeing high scoring games, but i'd want teams to actually be able to play some defense and big hits without having to worry about stupid/pussy/phantom penalties and possibilities of fines for hitting to hard. 10 years from now, Football will basically be, 11 guys(just the offense) lining up and seeing how quick they score, and then the other teams offense sees how quick they can score. Repeat this stupid process until the game is over

Is this the "old man rant" thread? Cool.

Takes me back to the days when I was a kid...Giants at 1, Jets at 4, and my Dad yelling at the TV because he hated the Giants (who seemingly never lost), hated the Jets (who seemingly never won), and he just lost his parlay.

Don Criqui & Bob Trumpy, bitches. I got your Gus Johnson.

There was some bad officiating this week.

Ravens Bengals- The PI call on whatever DB was guarding OchoCinco late in the game, can't call weak pass interference calls in that spot. Nothing irritates me more than ticky-tack calls in crucial game situations. Champ Bailey made as much contact with Hurd on the last two plays of the Dallas-Denver game, but the refs did the right thing and didn't call it.

Broncos Pats - The Refs were terrible the entire game. The running into the punter penalty was weak as hell, even if it was by the books. The punter flopped, I believe there's a penalty for that. That play could've been a game changer, if Orton didn't lead a 98 yard drive. The taunting penalty on Merriweather was terrible, the refs through the flag for PI, realized there wasn't any, then instead of admitting it made some lame taunting call.

There were a ton of bad roughing the passer penalties. One against Vanden Bosch right before half (lead to an Indy touchdown), one against Detroit (took away an interception). Every time theres a new rule the refs completely overdo it.

Between the bad officiating and awful teams, a lot of the games are unwatchable. I feel bad for anyone who got stuck with the Bills-Browns game.

No a different ref called the taunting call. If you listen to the radio highlights of the game video on nfl.com they explain it pretty good.

Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, JaMarcus Russell, Matt Stafford, Matt Sanchez, Josh Johnson, etc all disagree with your statement. You're overgeneralizing because of the immediate success of THREE players.

even so the taunting call was weak, that ref crew sucked

what does the helmet to helmet have to do anything, and if the ref crew missed a blatant helmet to helmet call that's just more evidence of the refs doing a bad job

you can't honestly sit here and tell me that had the ref not flagged Merriweather for taunting you would've complained about the non-call

just cause you're a broncos fan doesn't mean you have to defend every call that benefits your team

The roughing the passer call on the hit Orton took was weaker then the taunting call.

                        Clarify...what sentiments ?

Young , Aikman , Dilfer , Theisman have all made statements about QB protection/Ref calls going too far ,how easy it is to complete passes, even if they agree with the spirit of the rule.

                          They called it for PI.

Picked it up. Claimed "taunting" even though the initial flag wasn't that.

Mike Pierrera claimed the flag was initially for "helmet to helmet", even though it was questionable to say the least. Regardless they "picked" up the flag and still called taunting, which was BS.

When I start hearing Qbs of yester year refusing to give full credit to the accomplishments of the likes of Brady and Manning I think you might be on to something. I don't recall hardly ever hearing any ex-QBs say anything negative about what QBs today are able to accomplish. In fact, all I hear is mostly praise.

its debatable youll hear something simply because those guys are employed by the league as well in their post playing days. You cant be too negative about the company thats paying you. I am sure Archie has told his sons how much easier they have it in the passing game.

Not buying the "QB's of yesteryear had it so much harder" argument. Find me players on defense in the 1970's and 1980's who could run 4.3's and bench just as much as offensive lineman and I'll agree that older QB's had it tougher.

These rules are being put in place because a guy who weighs 250 running a 4.4 at full speed colliding with a guy can cause a lot more damage than anyone else used to be able to.
