    The Legacy of Larry Johnson

How will he be remembered? Should he be remembered and recognized? Does he deserve to be?

Mainly interested in what Chiefs fans think about this.

An online petition started by Chiefs fans asks team general manager Scott Pioli to deactivate Larry Johnson and keep him on the sidelines so he cannot pass Priest Holmes for the team rushing record.

Fans don't want Johnson to get record

Embattled Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is 75 yards from becoming the team's all-time leading rusher.

And some Chiefs fans have a problem with that.

An online petition started by Chiefs fans asks general manager Scott Pioli to deactivate Johnson and keep him on the sideline so he cannot pass Priest Holmes for the team rushing record, or join the team's Ring of Honor at Arrowhead Stadium.

Holmes holds the Chiefs' rushing record with 6,070 yards; Johnson currently has 5,996 yards.

"While we are thankful for his service, we feel that Larry has been a black eye on the organization and has no business being mentioned" among the team's all-time greats, the petition reads.

As of Wednesday afternoon ET, at least 1,400 signatures had been collected.

"We are asking you, as fans of this team, this organization, and of the pride that this city has in the Chiefs, please deactivate Larry Johnson. Please do not let his name sit atop the all-time rushing leaders in Kansas City Chiefs history," the petition says. "He has never represented anything close to the values that we have for our Chiefs and it would be another dagger to the fans that continue to support this proud franchise."

"We are asking this as a favor to those of us who have supported this team long, long, long before you were brought in," the petition continued. "We will support you through thick and thin -- you will find out that we are a loyal, loyal bunch. ... However, allowing Larry Johnson to attain a record is something that can never be erased."

The Chiefs suspended Johnson without pay through Nov. 8 after he questioned coach Todd Haley's qualifications on his Twitter account and twice used a homosexual slur. On Monday, the team reached a settlement with Johnson, reducing the amount of pay he would lose in half, to $315,000.

His agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Associated Press that both sides benefited from the settlement and that Johnson had learned from the entire experience.

"Larry apologized," Schaffer said. "He learned from it and hopefully other people learned from it. My hope is that people learn that something positive can come out of this and that there are words that should not be used because they demean people."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

As would I. Larry Johnson is just another punk ass egotistical prick.

He never said a word when the Chiefs were winning games and moving the ball on offense but as soon as the team and organization started to struggle he became a cancer.

A guy like that does not deserve to be in the ring of honor at arrowhead stadium. That would be a slap in the face to guys like Derrick Thomas and Otis Taylor.

On the field, for at least one year, LJ was every bit as good as Priest Holmes. He was a very physical RB who ran over people. He didn't look for the sidelines, he dished out punishment. I think LJ got screwed by KC in a way, because they really overused him until he broke down. He's definitely not the same RB he was a few years ago.

LJ is a douche, team sucks with him and they would suck without him.

It was for more than one season. LJ down the stretch in 2005, and through the entirety of 2006 was probably the best running back in football. He also single handedly won my fantasy league for me that year.

On the field, yes, he was screwed by being run into the ground that year, 370 carries or whatever it was is just insane. But when it comes to LJ's transgressions off the field, he has nobody to blame but himself.

He had a huge hold out just 2 years ago, got a nice new extension and ever since then has been a first rate D-Bag off the field. Slapping women, spitting on women, talking shit about his coach on twitter, it's like he just completely disregarded his image and shirk his responsibility to at least appear like a decent guy.

It's hard to take behavior like that from even the best of good players, but it becomes nearly impossible to forgive this kind of shit once that player ceases being good. LJ seems like he completely stopped caring about his team or his career as soon as he got that contract.

He's a POS, and Chiefs fans deserve to have Priest on that list and not him. Great idea for a petition, and why fans will always be the most important part of sports.

The Chiefs have 1,400 fans left?

In all seriousness though, the guy's a d-bag, he stopped playing once he got his contract. Bench him...its not like he's winning games for them. At this point, Jamaal Charles is probably almost as good and 100 times more liked by the fans
