Myron Rolle Puts NFL on Hold for Oxford.

Tuesday eye-opener: Myron Rolle puts NFL on hold for Oxford

    Somewhere Bill Bradley is smiling.

Florida State defensive back Myron Rolle will not enter the 2009 NFL draft and instead will head for Oxford, England to study medical anthropology for a year.

Earlier this year Rolle was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.

Rolle e-mailed Pete Thamel of the New York Times that he was told he would have gone in the top 50 picks of the draft and could have moved up depending on his performance at the combine.

He is expected to enter the 2010 draft. (Photo of Rolle winning the Ronnie Lott Award by Kevork Djansezian, AP)

In 1965, Bradley, then perhaps the best player in college basketball, bypassed the NBA draft to study at Oxford.

Already an Olympic gold medal winner, Bradley would later have a successful career with the New York Knicks, winning two NBA titles, before becoming a long-time New Jersey senator.

Interestingly, Rolle is from New Jersey. He graduated from FSU in 2 1/2 years with a pre-med degree. He hopes to play in the NFL and go to medical school.

Like Bradley, Rolle's talents allow him to pursue both dreams. But what would you do if you could only have one?

If it was me, I'd go to the NFL. That was always my dream. But I don't think its a bad decision on his part. He furthers his education which will give him something to fall back on if the NFL doesn't work out/after the NFL.

This man is extremley gifted. I heard him on the Jim Rome (hate that fuck) Show and man could I not be more impressed.

First of all he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, do you mf'ers know how hard that is to get?

Not only did he get the Rhodes Scholarship but he did this while devoting time to play NCAA D-1 Football at FSU. Can you imagine if this man spent all his time playing football or the other way around and spent his time studying? How great would he be if he spent all his time devoted to that 1 thing?

Glad to see him doing what he wants to truly do.

Do you know what Oxford is? One of the most prestigious colleges in the world.
To receive a degree from there goes a LONG way in life. Plus he already said he is going to be in the NFL in 2010, if you read the article, so he is getting both.

why wouldnt he go to oxford? he can enter the darft next year if he wants and still go in teh 2nd round. its a win-win for the kid. I am very impressed that a football player won the Rhodes though. I am not saying football players are dumb, but you got to be the shit to get that.

He really can't go wrong with his choice, and I'm very happy to see he's pursuing a life after the NFL. He'll still go in the draft next year, like people said, and make big money talent.

The Rhodes Scholarship went to a very smart, deserving young man. I'm surprised frankly he went to FSU haha.
