Penn State blows out Michigan State on national television. Iowa beats a worse Minnesota team ugly, without their starting quarterback.

Yesterday's games just gave the Nittany Lions a better chance at making the BCS.

My guess for the BCS bowl breakdown...

Rose - Oregon vs Ohio State
          Sugar - Florida vs Cincy
Fiesta - Boise State vs Iowa
Orange - Georgia Tech vs TCU
          BCS - Texas vs Alabama

LOL @ you thinking the business known as the BCS would take two Big East teams.

Posting some more statistics that are in favor of Penn State.

Last year's Neilsen Ratings for both teams' bowl games: Penn State in the Rose Bowl against USC (11.7) while Iowa in the Capital One Bowl against South Carolina (3.1). Yeah, I know that was a BCS game and it was against USC, but that is still a HUGE difference.

Last time both teams played in the Orange Bowl: 2006, when #3 Penn State defeated a #22 Florida State (12.3). 2003, when #5 Iowa lost to #4 USC (9.7).

                Just to add to this

Watching Boise play tonight and a "Fiesta Bowl rep" who was at the game told ESPN that they were set on having a Big 10 team (Iowa or PSU you would guess) v Boise/Okie st.

He also added that Boise would have little/no shot at making a BCS Bowl if Texas lose to Nebraska

Oklahoma State-Penn State should be very interesting then.

assuming we kick OU's ass today.

and i honestly dont care about the title game anymore. It's clearly gonna be the SEC champion vs Texas or TCU. Actually i take that back, I'd love to see the Frogs get in there.

Oh, and to touch on the whole "but Iowa beat Penn State" debate. Remember in 2007 that Kansas lost to Missouri, but yet got the bid over the Tigers.

Pitt will beat Cincy, and both will get into the BCS.

Cincy won't make it into the BCS without an auto bid.

Well, today's action all but guarantees that the final BCS spot will come down to Iowa and Penn St.

                            Florida (SEC Champ)
                            Texas (Big XII Champ)
                            Cincinnati/Pittsburgh (Big East Champ)
                            Georgia Tech/Clemson (ACC Champ)
                            Ohio St. (Big Ten Champ)
                            Oregon/Oregon St. (Pac-10 Champ)
                            TCU (At Large)
                            Boise St. (At Large)
                            Alabama (At Large)

Only ten spots available...and we've got nine teams locked in. With what happened in these past few weeks, all competition around Penn St. and Iowa has been removed. Really, there are only two scenarios that would keep them out.

                            1. Pitt beats Cincinnati, and the one-loss Bearcats get in...HIGHLY unlikely that the BCS takes two Big East teams. In the Big East, ACC, and Pac-10, the winner of next week's game is in, and the loser is out.

                            2. Nebraska beats Texas...that would make things interesting. Could a one-loss Texas team get in over Iowa and Penn St.? I think so.

Agree with this 100%. The BCS isn't going to take two BE teams. MAYBE they would have if Pitt would have beat Cincinnati as a 10-1 team, but not as a 9-2 team.

Texas will be in the BCS no matter what. If Nebraska beats them, you can say goodbye to the second Big Ten team.
