Not sure why that is so funny. The kid is a 1st rounder easily if he comes out this year. Most people have him ranked pretty highly.

Weis did a good job with the Notre Dame offense and got some good pieces in South Bend for success, but ultimately, only having one aspect of the game down isn't enough to be successful, especially at the level Notre Dame is at.

Notre Dame in this landscape of college football is tough to succeed at, and recently, Notre Dame hasn't gotten a guy for the job, period.

Post Holtz they just haven't gotten the kind of guy they need to win...
    Agreed.

Point: Academics don't really have a bearing on a player getting into a school outside of the Ivy League when it comes to football. Unless its something severe (Like under a 2.0 or single digits on the ACT), they are going to get in.
Yea but then again Notre Dame also takes great pride in it's yearly ability to graduate players and letting kids in on a consistent basis with bad scores flies in the face of that. For every Robert Hughes you have walk on's like Mike Anello who graduate early with finance degrees or guys like Brady Quinn who graduate early with political science and finance degrees. Robert Hughes is the exception and not the rule when it comes to players getting into Notre Dame. I mean just to have a 5th year of athletic eligibility there you need to have graduated on time.

It's not just academics that prevents Notre Dame from recruiting certain kids. They also try to avoid kids with questionable backgrounds. Many times, recruits will get turned off by certain factors, whether it's culture shock, latent racism, or whatever, kids get turned off. At least according to TJ Duckett, who said he felt like he was being talked down to the entire time, and not taken seriously mentally.

He would have won two Heismans at ND.
I think he ended up at Rand University.
