    UGA Fires Martinez

ESPN had been reporting rumors all day but it was just made official.

    Martinez, Fabris, Jancek all gone!

YES! No more terrible defenses and directional kickoffs.

Rumor I keep hearing: We have already hired Kirby Smart (Alabama's DC and former UGA player and coach) but it wont be announced till after the SEC championship game

    If the rumor is true...

the Kirby Smart thing makes too much sense. The reason he left our coaching staff was he got mad that Martinez hired Jancek over him. Both are gone now. Richt said he wouldn't fire Martinez till a new DC was hired so the transition was smooth for the bowl game. The team is taking a week off of practicing when they were scheduled to practice three times this week. Smart wouldnt want the distraction going into the Florida game probably but after this week it would make more sense. Evans said that Smart would be our first choice too.

he called a pretty good game but it was mostly our DT's taking away Dwyer and our offense controlling the clock. We only stopped Tech like 3 times all game (excluding turnovers)

            Still doesn't make up for:

            Auburn 2005: 31 points
            West Virginia 2005: 38 points
            Tennessee 2006: 51 points
            Tennessee 2007: 35 points
            Florida 2007: 30 points
            Troy 2007: 34 points
            Alabama 2008: 41 points
            Florida 2008: 49 points
            Kentucky 2008: 38 points
            Georgia Tech 2008: 45 points
            South Carolina 2009: 37 points
            Arkansas 2009: 41 points
            Tennessee 2009: 45 points
            Florida 2009: 41 points
            Kentucky 2009: 34 points

Every year we give up more big scores.

Keep in mind the DC (Brian Van Gorder- Atlanta Falcon's current DC) gave up 30+ points ONE time in his 4 year tenure and that was to LSU in 2003 in the SEC Championship Game. That LSU team went on to win the National Championship

Tyrone Nix - Current Ole Miss DC

Dick Bumpas - Current TCU DC
Bud Foster - Current VT DC
Van Gorder would love to have obviously. Tuberville would be good but won't happen. He's already said he won't take it. Bumpas i would LOVE to have. Same with Foster but its doubtful we get him. He's been at VT for forever.

I mean we only had the worst scoring defense in the SEC for conference games

                          20. Only Vandy scored less than you :wavey:

Quan, do you realize how little talent the Falcons have on that side of the ball? It's scary, in a bad way. Lofton is very good, Abraham has only been decent this year, Babineaux is a solid player, but that's about it. Our best CB (whoever that may be) would be nothing more than a decent #2 or #3 on most good teams.

Nash, Anthony Dasher over on the UGA Rivals basically shot down Koenning, MacIntyre and Thompson. The site where some idiot got those names from is highly unreliable.

Kirby Smart is the obvious move here. He was my player coach when I went to UGA football camp 10 years ago. Real cool guy, seems like a real "Saban type" ala Muschamp.

I'm satisfied with Chavis after one year, but I'd take Smart or Muschamp any day.
