Yes, I did read/hear somewhere he said something like that... basically the system will work itself out. But WTF does that mean? Was he really thinking it'd work out in their favor? The only thing in that interview on Fox he said was "Well I voted us number 2".. IDK

Chris Petersen of Boise said something similar after his win against Nevada.. It just baffles me that these guys (A) Believe the system will favor them, or (B) Are just happy making it to a BCS bowl


EDIT: Coach Patterson on ESPN is so delusional talking about climbing the mountain & being ranked higher in the preseason next year so they might get a shot. Are you kidding? Boise has gone undefeated one season & had one close loss to TCU last year & start at an average ranking of 13-15. There is a reason why these non-BCS schools are ranked low enough at the beginning so they cant crack the top 2 if the go undefeated.

I agree. They should have at least kept their mouths shut about it until after the bowl game. I'm shocked they'd say something remotely endorsing the current system given their teams position in the polls.

But matching up TCU and Boise may be a good move for the BCS. The conspiracy theorist in me says it's a no win situation for the winner of the game. If the victor decides to attempt to gain momentum going into next season, the excuse will always be along the lines of "well, XXXX didn't beat a BCS quality team in their bowl. Their opponent was overrated to begin with."

You guys do realize the BCS Committee has NOTHING to do with the bowl match-ups, sans the title game. It's all up to the individual bowls. You can't blame the BCS for TCU v. Boise State. That one is on the Fiesta Bowl.

You don't think BCS reps are working behind the scenes to influence who picks whom? A matchup that results in either TCU/Boise beating another BCS conference team doesn't look good especially if the committee is concerned about Congress' threat to investigate the BCS. Either enough people were influenced to keep TCU/Boise in the same bowl or the BCS reps lucked out today. My skepticism toward the system makes me think the former.

The Sugar had to replace Alabama...took Florida.

The Fiesta had to replace Texas. Took the strong regional pick in TCU. Replacing one Texas team with another.

The Rose was set.

The Orange had to take Tech.

Then the Orange Bowl picks and they take Iowa. Not a bad pick as Iowa has the best traveling fan base of any of the teams left that are eligible.

The Fiesta picks next and had to choose from Cinci, Boise St, Va Tech, or BYU. Them taking Boise St back isn't that much of a shock seeing as they had them when they upset Oklahoma so there is some history there. Frankly, they didn't have much to choose from really. You could make a case for Cinci but even still they have some history with Boise so it makes it a bit more of a compelling pick plus you have the two Cinderellas playing each other.

The Sugar Bowl pretty much got stuck with Cincinnati at that point because of the autobids.

And honestly if you wanted to be conspiratorial about it you could say the Fiesta, by picking Boise, therefore guaranteed that there would be at least two undefeated teams at the end of the season thus throwing the BCS/Playoff debate into even higher gear. They could have done it by choosing Cinci though too. Either way the theory works.

I would agree with that. Look at it from the Fiesta Bowl perspective. They could've picked Cincy, but Cincy fans didn't travel well to the Orange Bowl last year, so do you really expect them to travel well to Glendale? In the end, it came down to Boise State and Virginia Tech (Penn State locked out with the choice of Iowa, and really, the Mormons had no shot) and the Fiesta would've been crucified for taking a thee loss ACC team over an undefeated team.

Good call on the Penn St being locked out. Overlooked that.

Agreed with the Iowa thing but Iowa has a fan base that travels REALLY well. There's not much to do in Iowa this time of year....or ever..so you have a bunch of people looking for an excuse to get to a warm climate. Plus Iowa has a terrific med school and tons of rich alums who are doctors so they can travel and spend a lot of money doing it.

I think all the bcs games are good. If Bama/Texas is sloppy and Cincy beats UF in a good fashion, Cincy should get an AP National Championship
